the glow would sorta be contained by the spikey things, ya know? like, it should excape between them, but where they are, it shouldnt show, and the parts that you have light & dark brown are supposed to sorta form a sphere, i dont get the feel of that from what youve done, but then again, you did say it was only 3 min of work...hehe, im thinkin more along the lines of, say... a japanese garden lantern?

think of it like this, the spikey things that meet in the middle are part of a spherical basket
inside, is a glowing orb of light

the points that cover the central circle are in the foreground, and those taht dive behind it are in the background, behind the orb, transmission allmost has it right 'cept that his lgiht rays need to be cut off by the foreground part, and that it doesnt look round
