cant find the solution anywhere...
Ok I recently bought Halo for the PC, thought it was going to be great. I went to create a new profile and when I did many of the options were missing in alot of the menus. I have version 1.02 and it has still not fixed it, I cannot change:
Specular
Shadows
Decals
Environmental Music
Hardware something or other
and a few other options are inaccessible, I have a P4 2.53Ghz 512Megs of RAM and Nvidia MX440 GFX, these specs are way above the expected but I still cannot change anything.

Here is one screenie:

    Your card doesn't support them.

Yeah its generally not a good outlook for Halo performance wise when it blots out option. U235 summed it up. No support. Cant fix it without a newer card either.

Megerbities has really nothing to do with card performance. Simply put: The MX hardware itself just doesn't support those items. You're SOL :/

    Sorry.

Er... How old is your computer then? And better check if your motherboard has an AGP slot, before you buy a graphics card...

Welcome to the world of MX series Nvidia cards.

[EDIT] I have a Nvidia GeForce 4 MX, and I can at least change Decals. [/EDIT]

Open your computer's case and check the PCI slots (you most likely don't have any ISA ones ). There should be a smaller brown one (AGP) there.

And if your computer is half a year old, it surely has an AGP slot... But check anyway.

If it's greyed, then your card doesn't support it. Simple as that.

as to getting it to run well on 1024x768...

    I hate you...oh so very much. Mine runs...barely...@ 640x480

You need a card that supports Shaders. Unortunately the GF4 MX isn't one of them. You'll need a GF4 Ti if you want those options. It does make the game look purty but even with my Ti4800/2500+, my speed drops to around 16fps in battle.

lucky, for some reason, all i get is the title screen, i can hear the starting movies for the companies play, then the intro movie play, then the OOOOO OOOO OOOOO menu music play, but i only see the default halo background, the menu or the move or the game itself never show up.

    Athalon 2100+, 512Megs DDR, and a Nvidia TI4600

Eww 16? your video card is better but my CPU is better (2700+) and I get 30fps minimum singleplayer. (combat)
  • DaedalusDaedalus Join Date: 2003-04-02 Member: 15152Members
What res and texture quality are you running though? 16 is the minimum for combat. It's usually about 25 in battle and 40-50 when I'm wandering around.

This is why I carefully looked after the "TI" when I bought my computer. I consider MX cards to be a waste of money.

Man I only notice a FPS hit when I'm surrounded by 800,000 flood. Otherwise it runs flawless

    AMD 2800 XP

    1024 Mb 2700 DDR

    GF4 TI 4600

    Meh.

For all the people complaining about greyed out video options: It's not a software problem. Your hardware just doesn't support the options. You need a GF4 Ti and higher or possibly a GF3 Ti. These cards support Pixel Shaders and Vertex Shaders which are used to make the sexy effects.
