The disturbing thing is that that part is actually necessary in these forums.

Shouldn't really post a wip thread until you have a little more to show. Not much to discuss at the moment.

That's way too high for such a simple extrude job. I can't tell where you spent all of it without a wireframe, since it's basically just a flat extrude and cylinders. If this is nearly completed, then it isn't a very good job. For a beginner, it's okay. All I can suggest is to read up and improve your technique. Or rather than reading (if you find your english is a little weak), just look at stuff that has already been done and try to learn by example.

It boggles my mind how you can say this is almost finished. Compare your model to the reference and tell me if it even remotely looks like it.

As they say over here, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again".

the concept, cutted polycount to 756 polys..by deleting unneeded faces inside the model(half of the cylinders were inside model)

cant you delete those vertices, weld half the cylinder to the side, and cut the polies hidden by the cylinder? and allso, your cylinders will look round enough with 12 sides, the skin will do the rest.

Edited my post, i was doing it while ya posted it seems..will be atleast 1000-1500 without hands however. and i cant weld verticles on something what isnt there, its because the way i used extrude(the extrude function made only Segments on Back and Front, not sides).

huh, ok. I wonder if you cant create a new object with vertices in the area where your extruded parts are now... it would be worth it for poly reduction purposes, and keep in mind, noones ever gonna see the very front of this model (if its v) so you can cut down on the detail on the barrel/sloped thingy significantly

mebbe you could make a block, copy the central part of the gun over it, and delete the polygons/vertices that were outside the outline, thus giving you a side that you could move over and weld to the rest?

*edit* erp, the slope wasnt as detailed as i thoguht it was, on second inspection

ahhh i made 12 Sides Option Cylinders now..ill see how much polys it cuts.
• UlatohUlatoh Join Date: 2002-12-18 Member: 10982Members
ya, i woulda thought it would bring it down significantly... did you by chance leave the old ones in or something? or type 120? lol

oh rofl, i imported it twice on accident..850 polys..
• UlatohUlatoh Join Date: 2002-12-18 Member: 10982Members
heh, thats closer to what i thought... though 850 is still mroe than the 750 earlier?

remade the 2 additonal cylinders, 782 polys.

obliterate a few of those erroneous polies that will be covered by hands in game... i.e....

i allso noticed some mesh between the handle and the gun, can you cut that out and weld it together?

Few tips. Don't use cylinders that have over 8 sides. Also, if you're not going to round that thing, don't use more than one segments when you're extruding the spline. I suggest reading my tut posted at ns modelling 101.

...that dont like it cause one thing..the..err thing thatsorunds the trigger..that goes all the way down to where the clip is..go play halo demo and reload u will see ..

Darkkiz, i made segments because i thought the 3dsmax would also put on sides of the model, not just front and back . Yes i can make the gun one segmented eny time i want...unless i have used edit mesh wich i did. And Shask this is not the pistol from halo "=(%, don't ya see those " ", Their just concepts made by OWEN. ANd please stop making comments to reduce polies, if the gun is gona be 1500 polys it will be...Im the modeller its my choice.

u no the back bit should be round, so the battery fits in snug (also round, like a blopper shell with prongs)

u know, not to be mean, it is a nice model for a beginner. I have halo lans every weekend with some friends, and that looks nothing like the pistol.

u no y... cuz the only reason i called it a halo pistol was because of the holo sight like the HALO AR.
