<div class="IPBDescription">:(</div>When I was around 12 or so and I needed cash (to buy a Genesis of all things...) I did the unthinkable: I sold my NES. Flash forward a few years and I am no longer into console games now that I've found this "DOOM" thing on the pc, and I repeat the mistake, only with the SNES.
There are without a doubt the two biggest regrets of my entire life. Yes, even more than not slipping my date a certain form of "will loosening" drug during prom.
Sure I have all kinds of emulators, but they just aren't the same. Especially on NES games like Castlevania 2, the emulation is complete crap and doesn't render the screens right. Not to mention that Quick Loading a memory state is... well... evil (yet I don't have the willpower to not do it when its available, like most people).
So lately I've been considering going on a binge and purchasing one of the systems, but now they are considered Collector's Items, and go for insane prices, sometimes as much as what they were brand new. And even more disturbing is that the condition of most of these systems is far below "average", usually with the marks of some abusive owner who dropped it or put marks on it, or etc. And the games themselves are quite expensive still - Super Metroid sells for $30 used on EB Games. $30! That's more expensive than some month old PC games!
Arg. I need a way to get all these classics back without completely emptying my wallet... I don't trust the jerks on eBay, and garage sales around here are always, always crap. I'm thinking maybe the flea market is my only choice (as I used to get Atari 2600 games there when I was a little kid) but bleh, I dunno if that one is even still around...
Why did I have to be so stupid? I wish I could invent a time machine and go back and punch myself, and then pwn me at some DOOM dm.
:(

well now next time you know not to sell stuff that you find important to yourself
sorry man <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
check garage sales?
But, thanks to the wonders of scavenging, i have a nice, working, mint condition SNES sitting hooked up to my TV.
All you have to do is look dude. If you can stand it not having a box, look in specialist games stores, they should have a few for a pretty nasty price. Also check in budget games stores, i picked mine up for £5, a total bargain with controllers and all the cables, just no box.
Search, there's millions of them out there. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I never ever abused my gear so it should still work, not sure about games, the most valuable game I think I have is Zelda for both NES and SNES. Vector Man and Sonic & Knuckles for Genesis. God I hope my mom didn't give all of it away...
EDIT: YES! Found all 3 systems in my closet, Sega, SNES, Nintendo (with a Jordan vs Bird cart still in it). Now to hope I don't burn out anything hooking them up. The only question is, should I keep them or sell them on Ebay? If I don't, I have to get a job to buy Christmas gifts.... hmmm.
should I sell it?
i wonder how much super mario bros goes for...prolly not a lot
On second thought, i should keep it for dk2
Why??
Why?? <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
I was bored.
I have Super Mario Land and Final Fantasy 3, but I can't find for the life of me Super Metroid at a reasonable price. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

Oic
I never even had a SNES, makes think of
"Better to have loved and lost then never to have loved at all" or maybe the complete opposite....
neither really.
Better to have sat on your **** and have done nothing then to have tried to do anything.
And we moved onto the Megadrive.
I agree emulators don't "do it" but there's no excuse for quickloading other than to listen to endgame music or brag to your friends how fast you completed a game <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Well I don't know how to help you find your old systems again (the only one I was ever stupid enough to get rid of was my 2600... ), but that emulation bit with castlevania 2 i can probably help with. What emulator are you using? What name does Cowering's GoodNES give it? FCEU with "Castlevania 2 - Simon's Quest (U)" seems to work fine for me.
I gave my genesis to some kid who lost his in a flood. I didn't play it anymore. I want it back :-/

This is kinda OT....but if your not joking you need to see somebody... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
My original Playstation from 1996 is in almost perfect condition, except you have to jiggle the RFU-adapter to get the sound going...A/V cables are in the box, but the jacks are reserved for my Xbox.
My X'Eye (Sega w/ Sega CD) works fine....except that the pin in the RFU connector is....uhh...missing. Hard to get working, never play it...can stop working whenever the pin I put it shifts.
My original Genesis (first version, with the pushy power switch and not the clicky one). Works fine....perfectly fine. Might need cleaning, but it works. The box is somewhere in my closet too. A/C adapter is a little beat up.
My NES was working fine (except you had to clean out every cartridge before you used it, and the inside of the nintendo too)....up until 2 months ago. See, if a game doesn't work, generally tapping on the NES knocks it into place right...if that doesn't work generally dropping your fist on it, blowing dust out of the cartridge and putting it back in works....
I'll tell you what doesn't work though:
Kicking your Nintendo,
then, bashing on your Nintendo with a control paddle,
then, punching the crap out of it,
then, shoving the cartridge into the slot so hard it makes a pinging sound...
...I think my NES is mad at me.
Cheapest I've found it in-box is $40 around here.
I might have to go outta box if I want to buy it at a reasonable price.
One of my friends has an original SNES (the first edition kind). I sold another friend my PSX. I sold my SNES to buy an N64. Now I miss my SNES, Uniracers and Super Metroid.
I think i'll just ask my friend, "instead of paying back the 45$ you owe me, how about you give me your SNES & Super Metroid?"
I'm not sure, is using an emulator and ROMS illegal if one owns the game?
I bought one about 8 months ago. Worked fine. Then it died.... so I'm getting another one.
It still works kind of....Before I stopped playing it you had to SLAM the cartridges into the thing and then SLAM down on them really hard to get them to play, if you didn't it would come up a blank/green/messed up screen.
I bought an old SNES a couple of years ago, but alas, MY EX-GIRLFRIEND TOOK IT WHEN SHE LEFT ME!! LOUSY ****!! I could get it back, but I would rather not see her ever again.

Meh, I've heard nothing but horror stories of nonworking electronics bought via eBay, plus 1 out of the 2 times I have used eBay I found out the guy was trying to scam me...
emulators fill the urge to splurge on outdated gaming systems for me... only now i dont have to hold an uncomfortable square controller.
BTW: Mario tennis, goldeneye, Sanfransisco rush 2049 (you have to be tripping on cough medicine for full effect), Battle tanks... all great 64 games... the 64 was awsome back in the days when online gaming was limited, and you had 3 other friends just as bored as you.
