Question About Ns Steam Release.

When the final version of 2.1 is released, will it automatically appear as uninstalled in the "games" window of steam, or will we have to download it from a website? Will it be available at the Steam website?

How many servers do you think will be up in Steam during the first week?

This is a CS:Condition Zero question: Does anyone know if the same appies to CS: CZ?

Natural Selection is not an official sponsored game by Steam so you will have to download it off NS.org
I'm sure every server will migrate to steam after WON is shutdown.

Chances are they will all migrate shortly after 2.1 is released, since there won't be a reason to do otherwise.

You'll probably download an NS installer and run it, just like you did for all the other versions. Sometime in the future, however, I wouldn't be surprised if you could get it through steam's content service.

Natural Selection will be available through Steam.

There is a reason.. they already have their WON servers up. The release of 2.1 has no relation to the alleged killing of WON.

It'd be nice if they could "warn" admins of the impending change a few days early so they could change their servers if desired. Though my understanding is that we already have a pretty good steam server base?

I haven't tried NS on Steam at all, in fact I actively avoid it, so I wouldn't know.

I was under the impression that 2.1 was steam only, as in it won't work on WON. Perhaps I'm wrong about that though. Could a vet or pt verify please?

im no vet or PT... but from what i can tell NS: combat has been WON. as all the screen shots i have seen seem to be WON style. u can tell by the text in a steam game compared to WON.

    You are absolutely WRONG.
    NS 2.1 will be STEAM-ONLY!
And, as Max already said, it will be available through Steam!

One slight amendment to what Hypergrip said: There isn't anything in NS 2.1 that will prevent it from working offline (LAN) without Steam. You won't be able to play online without Steam once the WON authentication servers go down though.

NS 2.1 uses all custom font rendering btw (our work-around to the bug that Valve just patched).

There will be alot of server upgrading once it is released but you can be sure that the server that are alredy on steam will get the upgrade done first. There arent that many "good" servers out there for Steam right now ... the few that are up are either empty or plauged with NooB's (not that newbies are bad... just a whole server of them makes it hard to play) ..... if you wana try NS on steam right now I recomend either the FreaksUnleashed server (sory I dont know the IP off the top of my head) witch has good players on it and fairly low ping or of coarse the -pGc- server (my clans) at 164.107.56.100:27015 ... it has very low ping and fills up quickly (because if you sort by ping it is usualy witihn 5 or less of the top of the list.) and I can almost gurantee that it will be updated within a few hours of the 2.1 realese .
