Ze Apache!
Ok, so I was playing Desert Combat today, version .5L (500meg download off of FilePlanet...bleh). Now, i recently started playing again, and I didn't expect to be able to fly anything but the planes.
So, I load up a co-op LAN server, which gives me control over points and bots.
First map is El Alamein, 650 point match, Conquest style.
I start out as Spec Ops, with the new CAR15. Very nifty silenced rifled, more accurate then the M16, with a cool Red dot scope.
I hop into my Desert Buggy, driving for a while. I capture the south outpost. Then some "Opposition" (Iraqi) soldiers show up and...shoot my Buggy dead. Heart broken, I rush them with my CAR and die. So I spawn back at base and decide to try out the new UH-60L. I hop in, go up. Float there for a second, and I start moving forward. About a minute later, I actually kill something. Then I get killed by a Shilka (Iraqi AA tank). So I spawn back at my base. The UH-60L is gone, so I decide to hop into the AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter. That was at about 730-745. I managed to get very good with the rocket pod and the Hellfire missiles (excuse me military guys if that's wrong). Nothing like holding a canyon for 5 minutes with only 64 Rockets, 16 Hellfire missiles and my piloting skills. By the end, i was getting good enough to be able to actually just do fly-by reloads on my hangar.
Thank you. I just had to tell someone, as my girlfriend doesn't really care.

Cuz now that I can fly the Apache, I can slaughter my friends on our next LAN game. Cuz, y'know, they suck at flying anything and Apache is perfect anti-tank. and Aircraft can't really kill it.
:O
I found it's all just a matter of balance. If you start to tilt using the mouse only, press the appropiate key to rotate in the opposite direction of the tilt. It usually levels it out.
what would that be then folks?
It's a modification for Battlefield 1942, a GREAT game once you patch it. Just requires some patience.

that's the URL, IIRC.
(thanks for the thread edit Mod/Admin)
The big missiles that can't kill a ****ing thing and you only get 8 of are Hellfire missiles. In real life, one can pop a tank wide open. In desert combat, it takes half your load to pop a T-72.
The lil' ones are Hydras, and they've been gimped to hell because they made it so they literally fly in random directions.
Smoke, you'll never hate flying helicopters until you've played Lost Village and flown a blackhawk. Every **** in the world carries a stinger on that map and for some reason, light, pproximity fragmentation missiles are able to waste a huge, armored hulk of a helicopter in two hits. God it took an anti-tank rocket to take one down in Black Hawk Down, and that was straight to the rotors.
I use the Hydra's mainly for the APC's, Shilka's and Technical's.
Stinger's are anti-aircraft weapons, IIRC, so of course they'll take them out in one or two hits.
Since I have to play w/ bots, I can basically play only the default BF1942 maps.
But the Black Hawk's are fun.
It's also a big accomplishment for me because i never have been able to get them to work, even after hours of trying, with a joystick
Woo new quote!
YAY!
And she doesn't, not enough to make a differnece.
But, they killed my Apache. I was sad.
I've gotten very good at flyby ammo-reloads. The crew on the carrier must have JP's from 1.04.
This is my Apache. Me and my friend Generic Soldier decided to land for a picture.
Like everything important to a man, I named him.
YAY!

I know the feeling. Which is why the quote strikes a chord with me.
