585kb
i've noticed a few people recently asking about which steam cache to download and complaining that they don't want to download one of the big caches when they already have halflife and don't want or need any mods.
i found a standalone steam installer a while ago, but i forget where i found it. so for those who need it, i set up a trigger on irc. go to #evil-ns on irc.gamesnet.net and type !steaminstall to have it dcc sent to you automatically. hope this helps some of you on slower connections.
edit: i forgot to add if you're using mIRC it ignores .exe files by default so you will need to go into options and go to DCC, then Ignore, then under "Method" switch it to "Disabled"

However, i really would recommend downloading one of the main cache installers as it only takes 2 hrs on broadband and is so useful if you need to reinstall steam.
Still, there is something to say about having a fresh HL install to work off of. The downloaded hl game file crashed less than the one built off my old and abused HL copy.
