Can't Find Or Join Ns

Hi! I'm new.. Please don't kill me, but I have a question about just.. well getting connected at all. (I have searched, BTW)
I have NS2.0, latest HL patch (can't remember the version no.)
Pentium 4 2ghz
Creative Ti4400 Geforce 4
Creative Audigy player
Win Xp pro with latest updates (again, can't remember what the designation was, it just said 'updating' far as I can remember...)
DX 9.0b
Scientifica-atlanta Webstar DPX100 external cable modem, with Telewest as my ISP.
and i've turned the XP firewall off.
Bu I still can't find/join any NS games! it's 6:30 GMT. has everyone gone to bed? or is it something more sinister?

Nah, I didn't like the look of steam, so I plumped for the normal one (2.0 instead of 2.1b or something, isn't it?). To be more specific, whenever I use the in game browser no NS games show up, and whenever i use the quick start function I get the loading screen briefly before being booted back to the online menu and a 'could not connect' error message. (I cant find any on Gamespy either, bit I suspect that's a whole different kettle of ugly problem-fish)

I did say i'd searched didn't I? and that would include reading stuff that was in front of me. No joy with third party software browsers either so far - well, my usually very reliable gamespy comes up complete blank. I suppose I havent installed every programn listed, but I would of thought that most of should come up with something at least.

Get Steam, you will have to eventualy (the won servers are gona go down)

3) Download the 2.0 Steam Beta:

Install. It realy aint that hard, and you will HAVE to do it when 2.1 comes out, so yah might as well learn how to now.

You can still use ASE for finding Steam servers (works very nicely)

If you have problems give us exactly what happens and we will try to fix it.
