Server Needs Players.. Best Way To Attract?

Whats the best way to attract players into my server? I've had it up for about 2 months now and I'm slowly very slowly getting a very small amount of people who have it in their favorites... I have metamod and amxmod running. The server has a very nice ping (2 people from germany were playing and had a 170ping!!)

Thanks!

Play on it. Nobody joins an empty server. You just have to sit in it and wait for people to join. If you have a few friends to help you it gets easier. Hopefully after a few weeks you won't have to join it to get it started.

You could also go down the fun maps route which is almost guaranteed to up your player numbers. It just depends what type of players you want to attract. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

There are exceptions to every rule, but, for the most part, a quality server takes time and patience. Don't plan on doing this over night.

Dude above me is right... play on the server. No one joins an empty server.

Put the server in your sig, and try to be helpful with conversations in these forums. People want to play on servers with nice people. If they see your server mentioned in your threads where, for the most part, you're being a swell guy.... people will take notice.

Also, decide what's important to you when it comes to gameplay and the players you want on your server. The server that I admin on (see sig) has pretty strict rules about teamwork. Either you play with teamwork, or you don't play on our server. For this reason, we frequently have to cut players loose who insist on playing like immature children. This has made our uphill battle even harder, as many of the players that join our server aren't cut out for the style of gameplay we enjoy. Add to that the fact that many of our regulars are adults with careers, and what we're left with is...

.... a 9v9 server that's full almost every night now. (that's a good thing, but it has yet to stay full during the day, as many of us are at work <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->)

When people play on our server, we treat them with respect. We help new players. We promote fun, while preserving the fact that we take our games a little bit more seriously than the average pub. We have a strong admin presense, which several of our regulars have told us is one of the reasons they enjoy our server... they know that random idiots won't be there long.

We've worked really hard to lower pings and improve performance. We have a plugin which manages people's connection settings to most maximize the server for all players involved. One of our admins spent weeks troubleshooting with a 56k player of ours who was having problems.

Be nice to people, and let them know you value their (edit: not "your"... haha) presense. They'll remember that, and come back.

    Best of luck, and GGs.
