Editing Config.cfg

Trying to add items
I have been trying to edit my config file to add in hud_deathnotice_time "15" and hud_saytext_time "15". When I try and add it via notepad, when I save it and open it again, my changes have been erased. When I turn them on in-game, the changes never last after I leave the game; instead reverting to their default values (6 and 5, I think). Can anyone help me make these changes stay?

AMD Athlon XP 2500+

Thank you

Should I have made the 'Latest Steam' part on my system specs bolded ?

The file is not read only.

what he meant was, save the file with your changes, then right click it, go to properties and check read only.

Are those actual settings for hl?
If not, they will probably be removed by steam when it loads the config file..
If you can save the file in notpad without an error, it means that it is not read only

Try creating an autoexec.cfg in your dir and simply put the changes in there, that should do it

Here what I did in steam (steam seems to use userconfig.cfg instead of autoexec.cfg)
    userconfig.cfg
    exec autoexec.cfg
    ----
simple little fix that works well

Sorry for not replying quickly: I was on vacation. Adding them into autoexec.cfg works fine.
