Cd To Mp3 Query

recording two (or more) tracks as one
When I buy CDs, generally the first thing I do (before listening to them even) is record them onto my computer, with CDex. However, I'm pretty much totally anal about my music, and flinch in horror every time I'm listening to a record where two tracks flow together, because as mp3s there's a wee gap between tracks instead of the smooth link a CD has. I usually fix this by loading both songs into an audio editor and stitching them together manually, but I figure there has to be a program that can just record the two tracks as one seamless mp3 directly from the disc.

Anyone got suggestions for me?

WinAMP3's Crossfader? But... maybe FruityLoops can put them together...

Check your ripper settings to make sure you're not putting in any silence between tracks. Also make sure you opt to "spin up disc before recording". I was able to pull the tracks off my lewis black cd (which doesn't even work in any friggin cd player i own) and there's absolutely no gap when playing the two files.

Also make sure its not your player. Turn off any plug ins that may interfere w/ the way the track plays, especially ones that crossfade and/or inset silence in tracks. Winamp plays back to back tracks w/o any problems.

by default most ripping/burning software puts in a gap betwen tracks, they require a 2 second lead in(2 second pause before track 1), but you can set the gaps between all the other tracks to 0.

Nero is pretty good, you can d-load a trial version and play with it for 30 days. It supports over burn and some other nifty features.

Or you can download dBpower AMP Music Converter for free and have it do the same thing. :D

So there's no ripper you can just tell for example "hey, start recording at the start of track three, and stop at the end of track five" and it'll give you one nice seamless mp3?

*sees Doom's link and wanders over there

dBpower AMP Music Converter is for free forever!

So downloa BOTH and see if either lets you rip two mp3's as one...

And if you don't find anything, I highly recommend using Audacity as your audio editor. You'll have those mp3's merged in no time flat, in fact it would probably be faster than ripping the CDs again now that I think about it...

[meek] It, um, turns out CDex can do it for me after all. Just took a bit of fiddling. [/meek]
