    NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

    I couldn't run it. It says something like "The engine requires 1.1 Pixel Shaders to run"

    It's free, buddy <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> You have any alternative suggestions with as wide a selection, as many files, and newer content (not to mention better bandwidth...?)

    Didn't think so <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Yeah...I don't think I'm gonna download it. I'm such a wuss <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> I'm afraid that I'll like...spoil something. I did this for the matrix too - a strict policy of reading nothing about it and seeing absolutely no trailers or previews.

    The retail game can't be long off, can it? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Alright, that's it. Opera decided to stop downloading at 43%, IE has kicked me out of FilePlanet's waiting line three separate times, and at 18% BitTorrent is complaining that my IP address is no longer registered to download the file.

    This Officially Sucks.

    [edit]Evidently GameSpy industries hasn't learned enough since I made the post on their forums that got me banned, regarding how the need for advertising was a perfectly fine excuse to have people wait in line, <i>so long as the line system actually functions when their servers get hammered.</i>

    Oh my god... this is like... Shadowrun the computer game. It takes place in Seattle... cyberpunk... some sort of disaster in Chicago... <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

    (Awestruck)

    Unfortunately I have to run it at 800 x 600 because it runs like CRAP on my system:

    GeForce 4 TI 4600

    AMD 2800

    1024 MB DDR Ram

    Even at 800 x 600 the graphics are nothing short of amazing. It has a 'distance blur' effect where things at a distance are hazier, more muddled... dynamic lighting sources... *droll* I've spent the last 20 minutes just looking around a room.

    if it runs craptastical on his system...mine is gonna get nailed.
  • ShloomShloom Join Date: 2002-07-25 Member: 997Members
    Pentium III 650MHZ Radeon 9000pro and 230MB of RAM and I can still run it... kinda... it lags but I'v seen more lag in games with less grafics.

    BTW: Am I the only one who thinks the inventory system is ATROCIOUS? A flamethrower is the same size as a smoke grenade... uh huh. (You can only carry 6 things in your inventory)

    ... Wow.

    OK, let there be no mistake that this game is blistering with the potential of being the greatest thing since Pong, but dear god, is this from the Gold version? Considering the fact that the game is to ship within less than two weeks, the amount of obvious bugs is outrageous. How the hell did they miss the one that forces you to rebind all keys every time you reload?
  • GreyPawsGreyPaws Join Date: 2002-11-15 Member: 8659Members
    Nem: Sounds like a demo problem, I've had other demos do that.

    <a href='http://www.computerandvideogames.com/r/?page=http://www.computerandvideogames.com/news/news_story.php?id=98730' target='_blank'>This</a> should give you 2 things:
    1) The story about it [the demo] needing to be released today instead of yesterday
    2) An excuse that any bug could be the "problem" they were hoping on eliminating before release, and that they <i>will</i> (or should) fix before the game goes gold.

    For those of us in the UK, going Gold doesnt mean anything still a 3/4 month gap between realses dates without a good reason.

    I'm currently in the Gamespy chat (yes, yes, I know, get over with it, I'll uninstall it tomorrow), and got a little help from an Eidos employee: Simply check whether the user.ini file is read-only, as it seems to be flagged for some.

    Hey, you were right, I just installed it and user.ini was flagged as read-only.
    Everyone thank Nem for being brave enough to jump into a chat room with those...*shudder* <i>outsiders</i> that infest the rest of the internet <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    [edit]Not that it matters for me. After all this trouble, I try running it for the first time and it's whining about my GeForce 2 not being capable of 1.1 shaders. Nem: I know you've got similar opinions to mine about DX1, so I'll follow your advice: is this demo worth going out tonight and spending $150-170 on a Raedon 9600 pro?

    I'd wait until the full product hits. The demo isn't bad, but compared to the 'play the first level and be totally engulfed' demo of part one, it's a flat joke. Better spend the time looking for a good deal.

    One complaint I have is the fact that you can't kill people by tossing a very large barrel at them.

    I'll make sure to try it out when the slow PC Magazines put it on their coverdiscs. Sounds like it will just about run on my computer.

    I'm very very unimpressed. The control is awful. (Duck toggle anyone?) I had to screw with it for 5 minutes just to get through a window.

    The graphics aren't spectacular, expecially considering how slowly they run on recent hardware, and the animations are just as poor as in the first game.

    The AI is pathetic. I walked up to a guard and shocked him with the stunning thing (whatever its called). He stood there and looked at me. The next time I talked to him it was just like normal. I did it a few more times, and finally he got mad enough to try to kill me.

    The AI doesn't care one bit about walking around with a pistol out in the open. In the first game you had to put your gun away to avoid getting shot, and bringing it out would bring the guards down on you immediately. Now you can't even put your gun away, and they dont care one bit if you walk up to them and point it at their head.

    The stunner is completely useless. It renders a guard immoble for a second, but the only way to take him down is to kill him. In the previous game I really liked being able to take down guards comparatively nonviolently by knocking them out.

    *sigh*

    Wow, this runs like a piece of crap, even with minimal detail settings.

    I could actually hear my CPU and graphics card cry.

    Sorry to say so, Moultano, but you didn't get it right. You <i>can</i> holster weapons (select the weapon via the mousewheel and press 2nd MB), the fact that you can carry your weapon openly in a run down, crime ridden area makes sense, and as for the AI part - all I know is that he started shooting me instantly. Guess we can chalk one more up for the bugs.

    Amen to Esuna's point... how come no matter how high or low I set the game, I still get a chugging 20-odd FPS? My processor is fast enough (Althon 2600+) as is the RAM (512 DDR) and while my GF4 Ti4200 is hardly cutting edge, it's hardly obsolete either. The graphics look lovely, but it's not that enjoyable to play when the controls and inventory are sluggish, and the mouse keeps lagging as my computer dies under the strain.
    Hopefully such things shall be remedied before release <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
