<div class="IPBDescription">Just let us know you're alive</div>What's the deal with the lack of updates on the main page? I haven't seen anything new in a month. I'm starting to get worried here. <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->

You're right, you *don't* want RC6... it's still got bugs in it. But it's damn close. Now PLEASE BE PATIENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In short: if you have time to post news on the forum, you should have time to put it on the front page.
Not that it's a big deal, but yeesh. Writing a quick newpost isn't exactly a gruelling work marathon. I want real excuses. :o

Hey, can you try to be a little *more* ungrateful in your next post?
you might then say but post what rc candidate is getting tested ..... not needed either its irrelevant what works is being done simply that its being done is all we need to know ... as for mons pr doesnt just entail news posts , its arranging mirrors , pimping at a specified date ... etc etc
so .... shhhnow and grow a brain <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
they are really working their ##### of, and if you would pass by irc and check the forums, you would notice small hints from the mod´s and dev´s, also if you talk on irc, you can get a lot of info about the progress, if you check the rc6 changelog you can say that ns is really close.....
so guys, stop being like this because it sucks to see a cool community morph into something like this ungratefull, newbie and senseless thread............

Dio, what do you want MonsE to put on the main page? What? Tell me, and I'll hound him until it happens. Would you like a ten page report on each and every playtest game, or a couple dozen new gameplay movies every other day? Or maybe I'm over exaggerating, and you just want a little brief update every once and a while. Do you not get that here in the forums? Does it make that little update more "real" if it's posted on the news page?
Do you really think he's not doing anything? That he's <i>lying</i> to you when he says that he's incredibly busy? Are you really so narrow minded to think that he's sitting around on his ### all day blubbering away at the TV? Do you really think he's that big of a moron, and doesn't have anything whatsoever planned and being developed in the PR department? Do you know what it is going to feel like to him after he reads your message? Especially considering all the work he's currently doing for you, the fan?
I think it's an understatment to say that messages like this make him and the rest of the developers as irate as it does me. There's a difference between this, and a constant flood of "When's the game going to come out?!!". While these messages are a tad selfish and impatient, at least it's just a sign of eagerness. This kind of post is just selfish and <i>rude</i>.
Perhaps not any more rude than my own reply here, but come on... A real excuse? There are no excuses here. I'm sorry, man... but that was just wrong. :/

Oh my..
1) He has made NS installable for retail CS
2) Works almost every night contacting clans and gaming centers
3) Is letting game server companys know about the release of NS - inturn the game server company looks at a popular game as business and will put out some public servers
4) Getting people to host NS Beta 1 (mirrors)
6) Trys to come up with witty captions/news titles (now that takes time! <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo--> )
5) I know of more but im getting tired.. busy day at school
He does pretty much the stuff a PR guy does - and then some.
*edit* ARG KEN! I beat you in the 'show me the lvl4 ingame' post and beat me in this one.. <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->
*smiles, looks at other posts, notices no reply to easy ?, answers.
Yes. Game. Now.
That's what is what must be so incredibly frustrating for him right now. No one has any way of seeing the results of his hard work. Not until you're presented with a humungo list of mirrors and every server out there wants NS. And even then, most players wouldn't even notice, or care really.
Again, you had no way of knowing, but <b>please</b> try to show some common courtesy, give these guys a little more credit, and assume that they're doing the absolute best they can. Because... they honestly are.

To respond to everyone:
The vast majority of visitors aren't going to scour the forums for news. I honestly don't think it's much to ask that some of the more significant additions are posted to the main page as well as here. It's not a major issue, but I don't see any significant reason why they _wouldn't_ make semi-regular news posts on the front page. It's simple, isn't time-consuming, and makes the mod look more active.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that the team is making what looks to be an excellent mod. I just don't see the disadvantage of making regular news posts on the front page, and I certainly don't believe that every single team member is too busy for a 5-10 minute post once a week. It's a very very quick process that would benefit newcomers and casual followers in a big way.
I'm not saying that Monse doesn't do his job. I'm not saying the team isn't busy. If you read my post, you'll find exactly one solid statement: that I don't believe that the team is genuinely too busy to make short newsposts mirroring some of the information we see in the forum. I mention Monse because he makes a lot of forum posts (which reflects a decent amount of free time) and this sort of thing is directly related to his role on the team.
I can't say I'm surprised at the reaction I got, but I am a little disappointed. It's not that I'm ungrateful or that I think this is ruining NS: I just think that it could be _even better_.

MonsE does more than just PR, y'know. He's multi-functional. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Fair arguement, and good points. I guess that maybe it's just a case of not really having all that much to post about though. If they posted all the little tidbits and stuff they do on the forums... on the news pages instead... those updates could start to lose meaning, and the real important stuff could go overlooked. It's just more convenient to put stuff onto the forums.
Personally, I find it great how the team can find time to post here and everything, rather than use that time to make updates to the site. It shows how much they're in to the community. I do understand and agree with your points about not everyone visiting the forums... but, hey.
The site (rr.org at least) used to be updated quite often... but that was when new content was coming out on a regular basis. Artwork and map shots, etc. Right now, most of the artwork or other visually presentable things are finished. The focus in the development is mainly on bug fixing and balance issues... there isn't much you can post about with this. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> Of course, there's the Changelogs, but I imagine it could get a little cluttered and unprofessional if these were put up onto the news page.
Also, concerning MonsE posting on the forums a lot. Well... his job description <i>is</i> Public Relations, you know. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

Yah, my post was before he put that up. Either massive irony or super quick response, take your pick. =]
& KenBanks - suffice to say, I disagree. But it's nice to see a reasonable person step up to the plate. That's pretty much all I was asking for.

As far as the rest goes - yes, we can update NS.org and RR.org more frequently. It's not as quick as you'd think (as we do not use news scripts and have to hand-edit HTML) but it's not a huge bear. The real issue is that most of what I'm working on right now is either secret or not very newsworthy. I know that it says PR by my name, but it should really say 'NS Wild Monkey' because I tend to work on a lot of weird odds and ends tasks that free up the skilled game makers to do their thing as well as other more technical tasks that they can't do. So, besides the PR, there's coding (yes, I do coding, just not C++ for the engine), database administration, playtest wrangling, schmoozing with news sites, server admins, clans, LAN parties and other 3rd party contacts, testing, and lots of other things. All boring. All necessary. All unapparent to anyone.
And I can't really tell you the biggest couple reasons as of late. But they will become obvious soon.
All that being said, I will find some time tonight or tomrrow to post... something or other. How would you like a job as a PR newsie Diogenese? Then I can boss you around for a bit...

Oh and tomodachi, he isnt really a new guy just because he has a lesser post count than you do, i you take a look you will notice that he registered in May, its just that not every one of us spams the forums with 1 liners <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
Heck, ive seen a couple of people who registered in Aug. that have over 400+ posts...
