<div class="IPBDescription">Looking for what to avoid.</div> Hello everyone. I'm looking on geting into maping. Now I've never mapped before so it will be a whole
new experince for me. I've read the sticky post on how to set up hammer and the compiler and have done so. I've even made the simple box room w/3 hives and comm chair and some res nodes. Complied it, loaded it and it ran fine.

I've read Chrome Angels guide to mapping and most of the offical FAQ. As I go along it's all starting to make more sense(Like what a point an bush based entites are).

But my question is, what should I work on first and what should I save for later. I another way: What are considerd the baics and what are the more avanced areas of mapping?

Thanks to anyone who replys.

Personally I think the most comlpicated area of level design is scripting an event... thats really confusing <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    As for actual brush mapping..
If you want to start making a room for your marine start, make that, if you feel like designing a tight corridor then do that, if you feel like etc etc... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

But a real good place to start when designing a level is to actually draw out a layout of something you want to do. Draw a digram that looks similar to the overhead map of the commander mode if you need an idea.
After that you can start to construct each of your rooms individualy from the design(s) you made <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

The Bellow link has many great tutorials if you get stuck:
