I Just Want Ns To Work..

<div class="IPBDescription">yah read the title..see if you can help</div> Ok I just want to know if anyone can help me will my problem...ill write everything i have done from start to where i am now....hopefully someone can help.

1) I installed Half Life: Counter Strike RETAIL version
2) I installed the 1.0.0.5 patch
3) I installed NS
4) It told me I need 1.1.1.0 of Half Life or v1.5 of CounterStrike
5) I went to FilePlanet and got version 1.5 of CounterStrike
6) My friend told me to get version 1.6 so I did
7) NS still wouldn't work
8) I installed Steam
9) I installed NS and when it told me i needed 1.5 of CounterStrike i just said I had it and went to the download
10) My friend who has it working told me to go to filters and put NS. It wasnt there. He then became of no help and had no clue what to do
11) I got mad and uninstalled Steam and CS
12) I just reinstalled CS so i have just CS from the HalfLife: CounterStrike RETAIL CD with no patches. Maybe someone can walk me through the steps of getting this to work...

    At this point I would suggest a nice clean install of windows (uninstalling Steam dosn't work that well as of now <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)

    Here is the deal:

    To play on Won:
    1) Install CS:R (or go and buy a copy of HL b/c it is more stable and less buggy then CS:R)
    2) Patch said instalation (http://www.counter-strike.net/retail_full.html)
    3) Download the latest version of NS (http://www.natural-selection.org/downloads.html)
    4) Install (it should now work)

    To play on Steam:
    1) Download Steam (http://www.counter-strike.net/ has a list of each one available from FilePlanet, get either the Full one or the Half Life one)
    2) Install (just folow the direcitons and DON'T KILL THE PROGRAM NO MATTER WHAT!)
    3) Get the Steam install of NS (http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=31&t=49430)
    4) install (it should now work)


    it realy aint that hard.

    Well i followed the Won instructions to the letter but when i went into the game and tried to join a NS game it said "Cannot join a server runnig custom game NS until you install the cusotm game" or something along those lines....am i doign something wrong? and can Steam users play games with Won users? I like Steam but my friend plays on Won (I guess i could get him to change)

    Right now since your WON isnt working, <a href='http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=getsteamnow' target='_blank'>go download steam</a>, and make sure you get the regular Half-Life steam, the one that reads "Half-Life Steam Installer: (211.6 MB)." Dont get any of the other stuff, its just a bunch of BS that you can spend a little bit more time downloading and installing on your own.

    After you download that, <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=31&t=49430' target='_blank'>go download NS v2.0 from this thread</a>, install it, then take some fixes from <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=18&t=47676' target='_blank'>this thread</a>, and install 'em all into one giant pack.

    Natural Selection will appear in the third party games list. Since NS v3.0 is comming out on steam, your all set for it with your steam already.

    Beacusse cs 1.6 is steam version. You wont be finding many Ns servers on steam man. You gotta wait til 3.0 cause thats when ns is ONLY compatible with steam!!
