Firstly there is a whole section for new players and forums for marine and alien tactics. You'll find loads of info in there.

    Alien tips:
Skulk <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> = teh sneaky bggr <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> so hide and ambush tactics work great. Never run straight to your target.
Lerk <!--emo&::lerk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/lerk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='lerk.gif'><!--endemo--> = anoying space bat <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> early in game use plenty of spore (gas) to kill off vanilla rines and spike them while they're in the gas <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> don't bother spiking structures unless you have plenty of time to waste. Remember HA are immune to spores.
Fade <!--emo&::fade::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/fade.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='fade.gif'><!--endemo--> = teh evil alien skirmisher <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Fades are good for taking out structures which the skulk are having problems with, such as electrified stuff and turrets. When attacking marines remember you are not a tank! Use blink - blink in swipe and blink out. Keep an eye on your health and then run for it!
Onos <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> = Giant space cow <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Don't really need tips for this fella! Most newbies choose redemption but you'll soon learn to appreciate the benefits of Regeneration. (45 health per tick)
Gorge <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo--> = teh fatteh! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Build RTs 1st and always consult your team before dropping an upgrade chamber for the 1st time. Your choices will effect how the whole game plays. Generally dropping a DC first will cause the lease moaning from your teambut remember there are always moaners <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Use your secondary skills whenever possible - either with weaponbinds or uselastweapon. These are a VERY large help and can take the place of certain evolutions, allowing you to pick other, more handy ones.

Skulks: Skulks get Leap and 2nd hive. This attack is for moving only. When you perform a leap, the skulk will let out a high-pitched squeal, then fly in the direction you are poitning. Leap is more effective if you are pointing upwards, and are possibly allready in the air first. Thusly, aim a little up, then jump if you want to get a good leap from the ground. Leap, when used correctly, can allow you to attack and escape instantly, taking the place of celerity.

Favorite ability combo: Regeneration, Silence, Scent of Fear

Fades: Fades get blink at one hive, meta at two hives. Blink can be used for fast movement between two locations, similar to leap but a little better and harder to use. Great for taking lone marines off-guard. Used correctly it takes the place of celerity. Meta is used to regenerate health. Make sure you take advantage of it. Using meta helps you to hit-and-run. Used correctly it takes the place of regeneration.

Favorite ability combo: Carapace, Silence, Scent of Fear

Notice a trend? I love silence - many people underesitmate this ability. However, marines get a whole lot of warning from audio cues - so silence is vital to take them completly by suprise. Silence also silence the screech made by a skulk when he leaps. Using silence and blink/leap in combination is verrrryyy effective.

EDIT: on onoses and defense upgrades:

There is a diffrent strat and situation behind each. Pick the right one for the job.

Redemption is for Risky, vital attacks. Basicially, it's for that sort of attack when you need to get in, but probally can't make it out. Thusly you attack, redeem, heal, and repeat.

Regen is counter aginst LA marines with LMGs, in any number, or aginst turrets. Also, this is effective if gorges havn't been building DC outposts. This is not to be used aginst HA or even LA marines with shotguns or HMGs. you'll get owned.

Carapace is counter aginst shotguns and HMGs. Very effective if you can find some DCs to heal at. It's less effective aginst LMGs and turrets because eventually you'll get worn down and have to run.

I'd suggest you check the Kharaa strategy forum for that.
