<div class="IPBDescription">My layout</div>This is my layout for my map NS_Retribution

<b>Background story:</b>4 weeks ago satelite# 198745 detected an anomaly in sector Alfa 4 subsector kappa 6 upon further inspection it was determined that this anamoly was an alien infested moon of planet (to be dicided). While examaning the photographs it was noticed thats there was a large crater with much alien groth and infestation. In this crater we noticed a "main hive" with two other ones in close proximity. We sent a large group of Marines to destroy this threat they anialated most everything but unfortunatly did not destroy the "master hive" before becoming overrun... We are sending a group of frontiersmen to clean up this mess before it gets any worse. Good Luck Marine!

this is a first draft so it will change a bit next version before i start mapping and after I start...

    I just _love_ the idea of having a dropship that lands right  in the middle of alien infestation - and then to have a hive be a Marine ship!  Execellent!  However, your layout is very confusing, is this all out doors?

    Yep, I like the idea too. But it seems that the r_speeds would be pretty high. That and it is a bit confusing <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->

    ok where the marine ship is with the alien vegetation is outdoors however the two other hives are in a large series of underground caves and tunels. Ill make a clearer version soon.

    That is one very, very large outdoor area.  Outdoor areas are <b>highly</b> shuned upon by the Devs, PTs, and many others.  Outdoor areas would 'unblanace' the game - not to mention the r_speeds for the poor commander.  There should be no outdoor areas were conflict in likely to happen, if you really MUST include an outdoor area it should be near a spawn, like the marines, and should be out of the way from high action zones.

    Oh darn.... there goes my jungle combat idea...... maybe if i aded caves and such i know why they dont like its because they want bob sorry i keep forgetting his new name to climp up celings and all. My solution was trees overhangs and cliffs. If you look closely at my layout (its my first one and is going to change drasticly in shape however very little in concept) the only open spaces are the passes inbetween cliffs and overhangs...

    Tomorow ill post a more NS friendly layout. sigh.......

    Please please avoid outside areas. They're like vehicles in CS, they shouldn't make a large difference.

    BUT nobody's stoping you from making it a custom map.
    Oh, and also, it's not like I (voodoo3 3000 16mb) will be hopping in the commander seat often.  Just for practical reasons.  Leave the commandering to those bourgeois kiddies with their GeForce4s.

    Make sure to have alien vegetation "impaling" remains of the past Marine squad.  How cool would that be.  Ever see that cheesy movie "Virus?"

    Ok i need some help wich is the beast/ easiest program to map with NS i have worldcraft. But i saw a post by a mapper (sorry cant remember who) showing a ceiling. This was not done in WC so i was wondering wich is the best or easiest?

    That was Piele, you know him as Infector, and he was using *I believe* Quark.

    I use Quark too, it's not for everybody but it's worth a shot if you're having troubles learning Worldcraft / Hammer.  The thing that I like about Quark is that it has a small window that refers to each of the brushes and entities in your map by name.  You can also group brushes and entities together.  Quark also allows for a number of powerful advanced features but since it sounds like you're new to mapping (forgive me if you aren't), I'll skip those for now.  You can get Quark <a href="http://www.planetquake.com/quark" target="_blank">here.</a>

    also i dont understand why theres more vegetation around the marine and alien infestation in the marine dropship then around the other 2 hives...

    Im not new to maping but its been awhile a long long while so im probly just as good as a newby so treat me like one... But not excessivly tho  <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo--> . Besides I got to remember how to work this thing.. wow a cube like room........

    Thats because the two other hives are indoors in caves with little oxygen and light therefor not very propice for plant life also its a big ROCK except for outside the caves..

    I tried to learn Quark after using Worldcraft, but I couldn't get the hang of it.

    By alien vegation do you mean like infestation or some other kind of alien?

    Jungle fighting against NS aliens *shudders with fear*...

    I stongly recommend having multiple entrances to each hive room from multiple routes.  Travelling time from the marine command to each hive should be equal (about 25 seconds), I don't see how you're going to do that with this layout.

    my preliminary scetch is going to be changed drasticly as i am working on it also i will space out the hives a tad to make em about 20-30 secondes awy each and to answer your question the vegetation will be alien to the aliens as well...  <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo--> I would like any ideas from the mappers devs and pts regarding this map.

    Last night I had a dream.  In this dream I was planning out an NS map, set in a complex of egyption style pyraminds.  I was just thinking "i'll have a hive here and here and here", when another part of my dreaming mind interrupted to say "No, no, no! You need multiple entrances to those hive rooms and multiple routes between hives.".

    Then my alarm went off and woke me up.  I can't even get away from the %&&%$%$"**! guidelines when i'm asleep! Shoot me now!
