Just a thought..

Well, just a thought.
When reading back n forth, about this n that, who does what, what is beeing implemented etc. I get the impression of that Flayra wants to add as many NS players as possibly (who wouldn't?) and wants to do this, by making the game fun and new, but still very easy and managable.

Basically in any post regarding the developement of this mod, a PT, Flayra himself or another Dev includes something like "...so even a n00b can do it" (maybe not exactly those words, but still).
I wonder.. HalfLife has been out a fairly long time, has a good number of mods and CS is the strongest and most played of them all.

My question is, while making this mod as easy as one-two-three-click-whereever-u-see, what is beeing implemented for those "veterans" or atleast experienced FPS players (everything from CS to AvP) to play with, except for learning curve with lvl 3 for instance(wallclimbing aint hard for those AvP players that might be using skulk and then the marines.. nothing new there, is there? AvP features jetpacking marines as well). Are there any other things to master, or will u learn most things the first day or so and then its just play play play?

And also, seeing it the RTS way, is NS as challenging as SC or W3 or maybe even AoE II ?

PS. No dont read this and think "hey, he's complaining, what more he wants, isnt all this enough??" it's just a little thought I have, thats all.

Trust me, vets won't be bored. It's not a stupid-easy game... when we say "so a n00b can do it," what we mean is that NS is a very complicated game, and we're trying to avoid the frequent problem of players joining a game like DoD or TFC and not having a *clue* what to do.

Hell, I had trouble with CS the first time I played... tons of guns, grenades, having to buy things... I probably took 10 times as long as anyone else on my team to buy stuff, and still didn't know what I'd ended up with. That's one of the nice things about NS: Shotgun, Light Machine Gun, Heavy Machine Gun, Grenade Launcher. Each has a *very* clear sense of ability and intended purpose. Whereas in CS you've got 3 sniper rifles *alone*, and which one you pick can make all the difference in the world.

I would say marines are the easiest to grasp... Aliens are more complex (think of the first time you played the Zerg in Starcraft - MAN that was a departure from the classic RTS style&#33, and Commander Mode is definitely more stressful - you've got a whole team of marines depending on you for support! But even just simple combat is still completely satisfying at more advanced levels.

The game isnt being made so n00bs will be able to play at the same skill level. It is being made so they can understand what skills are needed.

What they mean is they are making it so obviouse that newbs will rarely ask stuff like, how do i build, how do I evolve, how do I fly. This doesn't mean that it's so easy that it takes just one try to master.

The single greatest factor that will keep experienced players coming back is strategy. NS maps are huge, and there are so many varying possibilities associated with their size, that the games will seem different everytime. It isn't like dust, where you can either go under the bridge or through the interior. You can go down this elevator, turn left and follow this corridor to the next room and set up a minibase here, or rush straight for a hive room and deprive the aliens of a third hive, or sit above the doorway to the marine spawn waiting for a snack to come your way, or hang back and fly around and patrol your hives. So many different paths you can take in a game, I can't see why anyone would stop playing.

Well, "n00bs" will never stop asking, that I know for a fact.. they seem to reason like this:

"if someone here, can tell me with their own words how a thing works, why should I go look at a st00pid tutorial/help file (that it took someone endless amount of hours to make =/ )"

take this forum as an easy example.. the search button is by far, the most usefull and easiest button u can find.. do they use it? nu uh, they just make a new topic, still beeing what we refer to as "ignorant"

Oh yeah, greedo, good points, same with you coil. Thnx for the answers, although I would really like to see a PT story or at least have someone tell me about commander (not the ordinary marine/alien modes)

I can tell you what will get us vets- and n00bs fired up.

    Actual Teamplay.

Sure, theres lots of teamplay in other games, but you need an organized team or clan to get it to show.

In NS, it seems anytime anywhere your able to work as a team, because of the commander and hive site factor.

At least thats what I believe :|

Hey, after I made my topic on clans, I came on to check if it had been replied to but I couldn't see it on the first couple pages. So i searched for it and all it came up wit was some other guys topic on clans! Then I found it myself on like the 5th page. So yeah the search button doesn't always work.

Im thinking... that will NS be like AvP2 just start in a arena and battle? coz its kinda not fun in that way... or do NS have base that u need to get in with your own risk and kill all alien then everything in base BUT... If it's like AvP2... hmm..........
    Sad~ 4 me~
