I use it all the time, as I'm too lazy to put it in my configs.

As well, I'm pretty sure it may be a HALF-LIFE problem (Steam is just an authing system, but it was released in conjunction with the HL 1.1.2.0 patch) as it matters little if I'm in 640x480x16 with nothing turned on, or 1600x1200x32, 16xAniso, 6xFSAA... until buildings start going up, it's stuck at 100fps. Soon as the first turret farm is built, fps drops to around 40-60. And no, TruForm is turned off, so it's not that.

I hate you, and all you rich people with Radeon Athlon Uber Verto 921374012300000000 cards .

To compensate for the l4m3 video card, I play halflife in 400x300 resolution, w/ gl_texturemode gl_nearest_mipmap_nearest.

Hehe, that's a good one. But yes, I am playing in OpenGL.

I use commands which make text/death msgs last only half a second, which removes most of the clutter on screen. After that, it's just a matter of getting used to the blocky screen. It does inhibit my playing, but unless I upgrade, anything above 512x400 makes too much mouse lag for me to be effective.

btw, eMachine owns j00 .

Please disregard any previous statements about my framerate in NS.
I'm a total nubcaek. (I can't believe I forgot about the NT 60 hz problem & fps_max setting was wrong... & v-sync was on.. OMG, I'm as bad as the people I used to troubleshoot... )
The only thing I don't get is why 1024x768 with AAx6 and anisotropicx16 is _way_ faster then 1280x1024 with all that turned off... Probably something I missed somewhere.

I noticed something wierd while I was playing around with my settings in Half-Life. I loaded up NS, run a map through the console, joined marines, looked at my fps (which was somewhere around 50). Then I pressed escape, entered setup and changed the resolution. Now, when I entered the game again it was all mocked up. The hud was orange, the player moved really fast, the gravity seemed changed and the "upper hud" was gone. But to the point. I had a constant 85 fps! (this was with v-sync on) The thing I want to know is what had changed, besides from those wierd things, that made my fps almost double. Remember, all entities, models and such were there.
Maybe it has something to do with that "upper hud". You can remove it with r_drawentities 0 which also raises my fps to max (well, this command also removes all entities so it's not that strange).
