Piercing

first tattoos, now this!
Say, people here have some stuff to tell about their experiences regarding piercing, whether it's eyebrow, nose, mouth or tongue, tell me "how much it hurt" and similar just to scare me... because I am looking forwards to day after christmas when Im getting a nice shiny jewel to my right eyebrow!
If you have one in the same spot, please tell me something to scare/cheer me... how much did it hurt in a scale of 4-10 and how should I prepare to the whole thing. Im slightly afraid of (medical) needles, we'll see if I walk out of the store alive
I know at least Esuna is one who has experience with this *rolls eyes*

and yeah i had my ear done up the top with that gun thingy and it sort of hurt a little not much atall tbh.. but oh god later in the night.. i caught it on my pillow and OMG.. OW and this was when i was a paintball marshall.. and i also caught a ball at 200 mph into the EAR! even tho i had my nvader on... it was like.. still well painful! so i pulled it out.. and wasted £12.. oh well
Merry christmas!
I don't know if you understood, but by jewel I mean't a small, shiny piece of metal that will be inserted violently through a piece of thick-ish tissue near the eyebrow...
\O
o.O!
see, the O is suposed to be a ring, and the slash is like, his eyebrow, and
other than that, it doesnt hurt.
King?
tragus?
WHAT? (what king and wth is a tragus?)
Oh, and word of wisdom:
Don't drink before hand...
weeee blood is NOT fun
specialy seeing how as your already getting a head wound (they bleed like a mother******), you combine that with what booze does to your blood (it either thins it or acts as an anti coagulant, either way it just makes you bleed, ALOT)
My bro almost backed out of his tounge stud after watching a guy bleading from the mouth
As to my experience, they don't hurt really.
I find the worst thing about piercings is the grips they put on, those things squeeze the flesh so tightly you forget the needle ever went in. Which is kinda good since, to be honest, i don't much like needles.
There is one exception about piercings hurting, in my experience at least. The "gun". I swear, sometimes it'd probably be better if they actually shot you with a real gun. Those things hurt like hell, are barely sanitary and they're completely non-standard. The rough standard for piercings is 1.6mm, about 14ga. Some piercings are done smaller, some bigger, most of the time that's up to the piercer or piercee's discresion. Also, to use one of those guns you only need MINIMAL knowledge of even how to use it, let alone any knowledge of aftercare or risks involved. Ontop of that, the piercing never really heals. I've never had this problem with any of my other piercings, but my ear (Which was done by gun) pusses up and goes crappy every six months or so, i clean these daily and i know my aftercare so the blame can only be put on the gun. Come to think of it, my piercer even told me that's the reason why. I think it's best to steer clear entirely of those things.
Anyway, as to what i've had done.
My first piercings where on my left ear. The lobe and the cartiledge up top. The lobe i've since stretched to 9.5mm, 00ga. Surprisingly being pierced by gun this has stretched with little problems whatsoever, and no pain even on a 2mm stretching. The top i stretched myself from 0.8mm to 1.6mm, purely because i hate the crappy little studs or flimsy little wire rings you can only get in that size.
Next up was my other ear. This time only in the lobe, and it's also stretched up to 9.5mm to match the other one. Both have transparent acryclic plugs in.
After that was my tongue which was pierced with a standard 1.6mm barbell. This didn't hurt at all, the only problem was my body's reaction to it. At first it doesn't hurt and there's no swelling, so you get farely complacent with that situation. Then it began to swell. I spent 5 days barely being able to eat, and i had to drink through a straw. It wasn't painfull, but it was a huge inconvenience. But as with all piercings, everyone's body reacts in different ways. I've known people to bleed from their tongue, which i never did, some people have had no swelling at all, some people have had worse swelling. Sadly, i caught it pretty badly. Damned body....
Next up was my nose. It was pierced on the left nostril with a 1.2mm, 16ga, ring. This hurt a bit, but it was more of a pinch, nothing really significant.
After that was my labret, and i must say this was the absolute easiest piercing. No pain whatsoever, even from the clamps. This is the facial equivalent of the belly button piercing. Once again this was pierced at 1.6mm.
I decided after that to get a second ring in my left nostril so i went back for more. I should really have left it a little later than that. My first nostril piercing was not so long before (A week at most) so when he applied the grips he accidently got my first ring caught under. Man did that ever hurt. I totally didnt feel the needle going through my nostril because of the first one being in so much pain. The guy didn't notice till the end and decided to let me have the second one for free. And i was fine with that since once the clamps were off, the pain was gone. My piercer's a nice bloke really.
Cue forward a few months and within the space of a week i got my other two labrets done. Same deal as the first labret, same sizes and same lack of pain whatsoever.
Now where the only bad experience comes in. My eyebrow piercing. It lasted a grand total of two weeks and i now have a scar on my left eyebrow because of it. It was pierced fine, it was perfectly straight and pierced at the right depth but i went to a gig and ended up getting hit in the face. Right on the fresh eyebrow ring. After this the area became red and was swelling and gradually it began to grow out, dispite my cleaning and so on. So eventually i took it out and i'm now left with a scar. darnit.
On a scale of 4-10 as far as pain goes, i'd give any of the piercings i've had done (properly) a massively high 2. That's about the amount of pain of being punched in the arm... Lightly... By a small child... Who has no arms... Who didn't actually punch you... Infact, you imagined it... Weirdo...
A word of warning. Don't just get piercings done at the cheapest place or at any place randomly. Due to the lack of any governing law on piercing practices there's a lot of dirty "back alley" places. Sure, they may pierce you for less than some other place, but there's so much more chance of infection, disease, or the piercing rejecting or growing out. It's not worth the hassle.
Find a nice place which resembles a dentist's by how sterile it looks. Also, ask any of your friends who are interested in piercings. I don't mean someone who just got one done, i mean someone who is genuinely interested in body modification, and they should be able to tell you of any decent piercers in your area.
*EDIT: COLLAGE ATTACK!

I had a lipring, but I had to take it out for a formal thing and it closed up, haven't gotten it back. It didn't hurt at ALL, other than a really tiny **** when the piercer's needle touched the skin. I REALLY miss it though, and I plan to get it back whenever I have the money to spare and a ride to the piercer's.
All the other stuff I got (nose, tongue, ears, eyebrow) felt like a split second pinch. That's about it.
Thanks to all the others too, although I didn't know they practically make it go numb with the little pinchers(!?) and then penetrate the tissue... thought they were more or less just to give the spot where it's being put into. Say, should I take a painkiller right before doing it, or perhaps something more/less relaxing (no not drugs ) cause I know Im gonna be a pain in the **** for the guy who does the job... I'll probably act like as if I was trying to be murdered

I wouldn't bother taking painkillers, you won't need them at all. Seriously.
Also, the clamps are mainly for lining up where the needle will go and so on, but they're so tight they usually hurt more than the needle going through.
My nipple piercing didn't hurt at all ... until a "friend" hit me there. Ouchness!
How embarrasing that would be.
