I never bother downloading from FilePlanet anymore. If I find a site with links to files on FilePlanet... well, I go elsewhere. IGN.com has felt rather laughable to me. I've never taken them seriously.
I don't dislike them because they're a big company. I don't care about who is objective and who is biased. I really don't like registering to see a free product. The only reason to register is to sell my e-mail address. I don't need that.
1) Most obnoxious advertising ever. When I visit a site, I am visiting your SITE. I did not ask to visit a full-page ad, or have flash animations dance around the screen for 20 seconds, at which point I get to play the 'find the tiny little 'close' box' game. I wouldn't mind if it was just an ad along the side, but I should never have to actually go out of my way to get rid of your spammy advertising.
2) Monopolizing downloads and making the profit. I wouldn't mind if say, you could find half-life patches ELSEWHERE besides their site, but they have such a monopoly on files it's almost criminal. Why don't I stand in front of a public library and fence off the doors, and charge people $20 for me to move it? That's exactly what gamespy does. "Oh sure, we're just charging for the SERVICE, we don't actaully OWN the downloads... except for the fact that this download is the only one existing on the whole damn internet..."

That is, provided you dont' 'mysteriously' lose your place in line, Internet Explorer doesn't have one of its 'coincidental' crashes... honestly the only time IE ever crashes is when waiting in those damn lines.
~shrugs~ neither of those has ever happened to me U235... I've never lost my place in a queue or crashed while waiting either (even back when I used IE =P ). Sounds like you're just unlucky ^^;
I've had it screw up in the queue before as well. I don't use FP nowadays, because I've found that I can either risk queuing for 10-25 minutes for the file I want, or I can check a few bookmarked sites which between them will have whatever I want.
I'll admit I've never even been to IGN. I don't trust web reviews at all. Not because they seem "biased" or whatever, but because they just don't share the same opinions as I do.
As put on the firearms forums, "The crappyest games site merges with the second crappyest game site." <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> Then do you know any good game sites?

So...yeah, I'm with the "whatever" faction.

Yeah they got ads, so? One of the fastest download speeds and nice quality news. Gamespy isent anywhere near this kind of work.
so yeah there is extremly good gamesites out there, you just need to FIND THEM.
The whole GameSpy network has about 20000 ads, Im suprised ads dont pop-up in Battlefield1942(they use Gamespy to get the server list).
