are there any new player servers about? (im in the UK) or anything like that where i can learn easily?

Some servers are newbie friendly, others arent, anyway, whats your gaming history?
If you've played through SP HL and CS, then Marines will be easiest for you. Dont go commander on your first try or you'll be overwhelmed.
Marines are probably the easiest since they follow just about any FPS around. Point shoot, all that stuff. Thing is, when heavier alien classes come about, your going to want team mates watching your back. In fact, I'd say never leave base alone and try to stay alive.
Building structures seems to confuse most people at first. If the comm sticks a structure in front of you, press your "Use" key to build it.
Weapons are given out by the commander, but I suggest you get a grip on the game before trying to use the good toys (unless your team is squashing the alien menace) as the toys do cost resources.
A tip, not many marines seem to clue in on this but if you attack an alien structure, all aliens are informed through hivesight. Either attack them as a distraction, or take them as a squad.
Common Abbreviations For Marines:
HMG - Heavy Machine Gun (Powerful gun)
GL - Grenade Launcher (lobs grenades about)
HA - Heavy Armor (raises armor to about 200 with 90% absorb, 290 with level 3 armor upgrades, resistant to lerks spores)
JP - Jetpack. Lets you fly about within fuel capacity. Nuff said.
RT - Resource Tower, a structure that gathers resources for your team so your commander can upgrade, buy weapons, place structures and give you meds.
TF - A required structure to build Turrets
PG - Phase gate, a teleporter
Obs - Observatory, allows comm to scan, decloaks aliens within range, allows phase tech and beaconing
Comm - Short for Commander
General Gameplay tips:
Dont hump the armory. This involves getting as much ammo as possible. Dont. You waste time, and you will never use up all that ammunition. Only get full ammo when you have HA, a HMG, a GL etc.
Spore clouds are bad! The green gas hurts. Never stay in it.
TEAMWORK! Marines god is teamwork. Worship it. Love it. Nothing is more powerful then a team of marines that work cohesively towards a goal. Stick by your teammates, listen for skulks, and above all else, stick together.
Skulks are evil. They are dog like critters that climb walls, sit in hidden spots parasiting you. Watch out for them.
Onos are evil. Run away from them if you can. If your in a squad, gun it down! Concentrate fire on him! If the onos dies (you will know when you see an onos) the aliens have lost an expensive life form.
