Cannibalistic Cd-r

This is wierd... my CDs get these strange scratches in them at random. Even CDs I've used once have them. So i've come to the conclusion that either my room is haunted or my CD-RW drive is a cannibal.

How probable is it that something in there is out of whack and rubbing the CD? I've had to reburn like 12 CDs because they're unreadable.

Maybe your comp is being haunted by the spirit of an early production line model of a PS2.

My CD drive makes funny noises as if it is scratching up the cd pretty bad, but every time I look the CD is fine. Bear in mind that i've had it for about two years now, so if any actual damage was being done, I would know.

Also the fan makes squeeking noises at random intervals. Once when I was bored I timed it ,and they are about 1/2 an hour apart. My sister thinks the squeeking sounds like a dying turkey, and that's a pretty accurate description of the sound actually.

Maybe you should stop inserting other CDRW drives into it, then.

    Dust on the fan.

Trust me. Get rid of it fast before it builds up and makes the noise every 2mins.

It looks like it starts the video then goes glitched with boxes sometimes green and black , locks up then im forced to power down.

This sux0rz I mean iv almost phased out my video recorder so all my GOOD films are on DvD.

Thankfully, I have other DVD drives and TV components around, so I can watch DVDs... But when you want to see one with friends on the computer, since your parents are in the living room or just want to see something quickly, it sucks... Big time... I don't have to shutdown, but if I leave the DVD play to the root menu, it'll lock up my computer... Restart time... >_<

But I think it's my sound card's problem...

There is probably dust in there, or maybe something a little bigger that got in when you inserted a CD. Then when your CD starts spinning around I gets scratches in it. I suggest you get an air duster and go about cleaning out the inside of it.
