So much anger ...
Please, an Onos has its uses, as it IS the most powerfull alien out there in terms of hp and damage output. I love it when I have a couple of onos on my team.
The team needs both onoses and gorges. Please don't poke fun at the onos.
HOWEVER, the rule is still: Communicate! Guess what, it STILL works!
<!--QuoteBegin--Nether+Dec 9 2003, 04:50 AM--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Nether @ Dec 9 2003, 04:50 AM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> If your a good player then just save straight for onos. Most alien games at the moment I save straight to 100. Im pretty good so im usualy top fragger or close which means i can go onos from 7-10 minutes into the game. An onos that early is devastating to marines. Alot of the time I can take out thier base right away and win the game then. If thats not possible you can definatley take out all thier res on the map and severly restrict thier movement. When I do this aliens win 8 out of 10 times. All you need is 3 dcs for regen.
So what im saying is res whoring is good if youve got the skill to take advantage with. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd--> OR:
1. The aliens suck like o many servers, and dont build RTs or DCs. 2. Marines are good, and destroy your RTs 3. Marines have average skills and hand out 3 SGs and kill you in about 5 secs. 4. You get kicked/banned/slayed for not playing it the nice way...
I agree communication is important, so far as to tell my team im going onos and need 3 dcs
It would be pointless to tell people im going onos as my team would consist of idiots similar to the majority of posters on this thread. Who would instantly whinge like a child whos just had its pacifier removed becuase they cannot pass up an oppurtunity to inflate thier own self righteousness with pathetic, flavour of the month phrases weaker minded players use to make themselves feel morally superior to thier often skillfully superior counterparts. Call people names all you want but while you wallow in your own spite the people you hate are enjoying themselves playing the game as they want to.
I do not always go onos but when I do it often wins the game. When I play perma gorge I spend most of my time thinking, FFS ive spent all my res on 2 hives and 6 chambers why the f*** havent any of you gone onos yet or why havent you fades taken down marines res. If everyone on my team is holding res then I will abandon my intent to onos and drop some chambers and a hive, but if someone else is willing to do the ground work ill do offensive work becuase I know I can do a good job of it. I go onos to play for the team, I take down marines res, I keep them trapped I help my team win. If people want to complain about that then tough s***
Just as a note, 1 hive onos are not even remotely poor. Anyone that thinks this is either woefully inept at ns to the point of disbelief or just spouting random crap to support thier bitchy arguments. Even if you are so poor you cannot beat 1 lvl 0 lmg marine, you can still clear evey undefended rt on the map in a few minutes, something a fade could never do and would most likely not even bother trying, or any other 1 hive class.
I hoard res for fade when I see the opportunity. I'm actually a pretty good fade, not the best, but I do know how to use blink to avoid getting creamed by marine guns. On a good day, I contribute massively to the team by killing electrified rts and slaughtering any light armor marines I see, giving me rfk AND hindering the marine team by keeping their numbers low and forcing them to respawn way back in base. So basically, what I'm trying to say is that a good defense is a good offense, the problem is getting some aliens to build the infrastructure needed to sustain the war effort. Sometimes I do that...going gorge throughout the map and building chambers at key locations when it looks like everyone is trying to go early onos on one hive.
btw. early onos = waste of res. Not enough chambers to bring out the full onos potential, and no stomp. Very slow compared to early fade, not nearly as maneuverable (too tall), and cannot get out of a bad situation as easily as a fade. Learn to use fade, and it becomes the ultimate killing machine, guaranteed. But I guess that fade DOES take more skill to use than the 'run in and gore things' onos....
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->I agree communication is important, so far as to tell my team im going onos and need 3 dcs<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->Wonderful. I'm sure they appreciate your kindness.
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->the people you hate are enjoying themselves playing the game as they want to.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->Then by your logic I <i>should</i> drop SCs every game, as I enjoy that far more than the benefit I receive from DCs. However, I think of the entire team's enjoyment as well as my own in making decisions that affect the entire team. As a result, I rarely get to use SCs because I know how much harder the game will be for my team members. It's this thing I like to call "courtesy." I'm sure you've heard it once or twice in passing.
There's a time and a place for onos, and that is mid- to late-game. Saving for onos immediately denies the team resources that would be put to better use somewhere else, no matter <i>how</i> good you think you are. As <b>devicenull</b> mentioned earlier try dropping a hive and going fade next time, a creature only slightly less powerful than your uber 1-hive onos. You'll **** off fewer people that way.
<!--QuoteBegin--Nether+Dec 9 2003, 10:53 AM--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> (Nether @ Dec 9 2003, 10:53 AM)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> tankefugl is spot on
littletoe, if you think 1 marine even with lvl 3 can kill an onos then your playing a different game, same goes for 3 lvl 0 marines. Onos ARE killing machines even though not as much as 1.04. The fact is its almost impossible to hold any res when theres an onos around without jp or ha.
"all this thread dose is say "save your rez for onos and youll win". that is untrue and will lose you the game time and time again"
Nope youll win the majority of games by far.
If you KNOW your good and you want the best chance of winning a game (regardless of whether it was a good or bad game) and someone on your team is willing to put DCs down then go straight for Onos.
I like to win, so Onos is it for me
Edit for Forlorn
1 Hive onos dont suck even in the slightest. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> im sorry but you are wrong. you can kill an onos all by your self with wepons 3 and a hmg. all you need (besides room) to do is aim for the back half and he is going to die if he does not run. same for 3 level 0 wepons lmg's. its all comes down to hitting the hit box. on an onos its on the back half, its about the size of a marien. 5 mines and 1 sneaky marien will kill an onos. plant mines, onos hits mines, marien finshes him. 8 mines will kill any onos.
most games i see the **** get ouned and even though they are on my team i smile to myself because the fool saved all game, did not help the team build/replace rts or dc's (or ask if he could save) and the real kicker is they learned notheing from their death or worse blame the team in some way for their death. such as "gorge why did you not heal me?" why you ask? i was healing you. the problem is we have 1 hive and no mc's. if we had 2 hives and mc (some more rts for a healing post near the front) i could heal you all you need and you could have saved yourself with stomp. with out stomp you cannt go head to head against mariens that know how to play and expect to win all the time. onos are not leet killers and can be killed in many ways. where i play when the onos shows up its onos hunting time.
btw... nether. i have many times killed onos by myself with a hmg. i even got 1 once with a wepons 0 sg all by myself. you just have to know where to shoot and keep back.
also early fade > onos. not only is it cheaper is faster, (faster moveing. faster in becomeing) giveing you the power to chose your fights. if you find yourself in a bad spot you can get away and if you nail a 20rez bomb you are only out 50rez instead of 100 (with a good chance of going fade again or putting up a hive/rts).
edit...
im not trying to put this strat out. it dose work. is just few things need to be done beforhand. 1. rts, you need one half the number of rts as players (or failing that as many as posable) 2. someone needs to be saveing for the second hive (ask who will get it) 3. 3 dc's 4. most importantly ask the team ("im a good onos is it ok if i save?)
this is important because if you die the team will not be condemed to an uphill battle. the rez is comeing in, the hive is going up and a real team player (this assumes you did not ask or you did and desided to save any ways) will be going fade.
Well, if you manage to live that long then... you really should have spent your res anyways rather than saving for onos. It's kinda impossible to have an "Onos rush" just because it takes so long to get 100 res.
(Oh and btw there is a very powerful strat for the rines on small games that almost always wins.)
But whatever. If the rines can't even deal with a bunch of skulks for a long time then I guess you... could... go... 1 hive onos. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
