<div class="IPBDescription">Need help</div> Hey guys, I just downloaded the game and I'm about to go play it.
I was wondering what commands I should bind and some suggested key layouts.
Also, what are some tips/strategies that you could give me that would let me live for a little bit longer <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Thanks for your help.

The default keys work quite well (WSAD)
If you don't have a mike, i suggest binding kesy to things such as "say_team Resnode here" or "say_team BASE!!", for when half the aliens rush in and attack.
Firstly, search is your friend. There has been a topic about keyboard layouts only recently, so you should find that useful. ("+voicerecord key" I think.)
Personally I use the standard WASD for conformity, and TG for Med/Ammo respectively. ZX default to "need order" and "At waypoint" by default. Alien evolutions can be bound to keys, but it's too much hastle. (If you evolve to onos instead of gorge that's a lot of possibly wasted res.)
The "Frontiersmen Strategy" and "Kharaa Strategy" are packed full of hints and tips from newbies and vets alike. If you're interested, I've got some huge commanding/marine/alien manuals comming up on my poor-excuse-for-a-site by Jan at latest.
HTH!
Do a search in these forums for downloadable minimaps - Wolf (I think), did some very good ones which display the loaction names and are better looking than the originals. Replace you original files with these.
I would suggest starting out as a marine because you are most likely to be familar with their style of play - follow the comm's orders and always wait for atleast one person to accompany you. Also follow waypoints set to you on the minimap and large map to keep your bearings.
There are so many things to know but here is a taster from my limited experience:>
Get a microphone - good communication with team mates will help you if you get stuck or don't know what to do next.
If you find yourself playing aliens - don't "res****" contribute to the team by evolving to gorge and placing a resource tower or by dropping an upgrade chamber (always ask which sort you can drop - you have a choice of one chamber type per hive (3 sorts to choose from
), this choice moulds the alien strategy and play style > then evolve back to skulk and go hunting. If you have alot of resource and the team is doing very well try out some of the other evolutions. It is generally bad form if alot of people go gorge or if you save all your res points and go to the higher forms too early > unless you are very good using them!
If you stay gorge make sure you heal team mates that come by with reduced health. Don't build in way out corners as this is a waste of res - remember a gorge is a team player, a good gorge is building resourse towers - building hives, chambers and putting up offense chambers to deny/limit access.
As a skulk try and ambush - remember noise can give you away.
There are too many finer points in NS to list them all out - search through the forums for play guides and they will give you good background and tips for playing. NS is a tough game, but I have found it to be refreshing and rewarding.
Have a question about graphics though. The graphics look like **** and it's laggy, I have it on Software and 640X800 or whatever it is and it still lags. I don't have a good graphics card so does anyone have any tips to make it run smoother?

Tell us what card you have and we might be able to offer more specific help.

OK, find out if you have an AGP slot, if you do buy a card and stick it in. If not buy a PCI card and stick it in.
Any Geforce will be an improvement.

At the risk of starting a war;
Any Ati Radeon would be an even better improvement.
:-D
As for the installation, I'd be happy to guide you through. I've built 3 pcs and installed new graphics cards in 4, which is not bad. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
If I do get one in the near future, will you still be willing to help me? Or even better (or worse O_O), can you tell me a site that tells you how to build computers or even better (not worse this time O_o) is specific about the card?
Thanks guys <3 <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Ouch, that's rough.
I'm running Natural Selection right now at a pretty high resolution (not sure exactly what it is) and getting around 50-60 FPS on a TNT2.
If you get enough money you should head out and get a card such as a GeForce 3, that would run NS pretty well. You can get one of those pretty cheap, probably under $20 if you look in the right places.
I still think Ati have dominated the <£100 market, so if that is your budget, go for one of those. My Radeon 9000 cost me £80, can now be bought for £65, and can run any game full res without falling below 40fps.
If you want *the best* card, I have to admit GeForce win. However it will cost you £350-400+ for a top FX card, and they sound like vacuum cleaners.
The Radeon 9800 Pro is to die for, and is only about £120. IMO that is much better value for money. Spending £200 for a graphics card needs a pretty good excuse.

There are other manufactures, with their own models based around Ati and Nvidia GPUs, but they are generally worse than the cards made by the main manufactures.
Even so, look out for Tyan's Radeon 9200. That's pretty good.

I get link...
Hmm. I get link AFTER dinner.
EDIT:
Hmm. Dont buy from Ati's own site: £170! Dabs.com winning with £135, which is close. I am sure I've seen £120... I will get it...
