Newbie Commanders

Servers to practice?
I've been playing this game for a bit, enough to get a feel for what's going on. Still don't know the maps like the back of my hand yet but I can usually avoid doing dumb things.

It's easy enough to get along as a marine, but I've never tried commanding before, and a lot of servers are "no newbie commanders."

Are there any servers which are good for new commanders to learn at?

is one i've heard of a few times. has bots and such.

try to find servers with WhichBot installed (they are the players with the [wc] tag on them). they're usually open to some new guy comming

No, no Niteowl, the [wc] players are playing from their bathrooms. The [wb] players are WhichBots. Easy to get them confused, I know.

We welcome new commanders so long as you follow a few basic rules.

    1. Have a fair to good understanding of the game - and chose a map you know well to start with.

    2. Tell the team that you're new to the chair and ASK if you can try - so they can object at the beggining of the game and put a more experienced commander in if they want.

    3. Listen to the experienced team players advice as you learn, they are trying to help - you are in command but it's still a team effort.

    4. Communicate with your team. It's not enough just to drop stuff. You need to be a communicator. that means replying and listening.

    5. Dont quit when you start to lose - play the chair to the end. It's not fair on the team to leave them without a commander and its not fair to let someone else try to sort out your mess unless they ask.

    Good luck.

Until we need to put NS on steam it will be a WON server.
