Structures

I am confused about what the structures are and how they function, is there a list or anything that could help me out?

Nopers, probably somethin you'll have to wait for to read about in the manual. But there are a few that you can learn about if you wonder through the forums for a while.

Note: I swear I've seen that avatar on someone else once...

First of all, Welcome to the fourmns! And thanks for not asking the one qestion we all hate <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

As for your question, sorry bub, no list's yet. The manual released with NS will probably have a tech tree though, so just sit tight <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

Well part of it (as based of the official "World" section and "Unseen Enemy, Uncertain Outcome" the building "instruct" the nano grid on how to "build" what ever that building knows how to make.

From Rob's story, " It was the cutting edge of base tech: buildings that taught other buildings how to perform jobs and create equipment. The buildings 'taught' each other and the main system all they 'knew'."

Well - they answered your list question but here is how they function.

<span style='color:red'>*RAWR* I AM NOT A DEV OR A PT.  THIS IS JUST HOW I THINK THEY WORK.  I COULD BE WRONG, I COULD BE TELLING YOU OLD NEWS. *RAWR*</span>

Once the commander has enough resources for a building, and if all the nessicary things are researched, etc, then he clicks the building icon in his lower right screen.  Upon clicking the commander can then place this building somewhere.  Once he clicks again the building 'falls' on the that ground and needs to be built by Marines.  Buildings that are not built are transparent.  Marines can then go up to the transparent outline of whatever building the commander droped then hit thier use key.  This begins the buildings process.  More marines building = faster it goes.

    Different buildings have different purposes.

I have been hanging around the forums for about a month or two (so I know what the question of doom is...) but so far the only thing I have seen a picture of was the hive and the command center, the rest is just kinda thrown into the stories...I was just checkin to make sure I hadn't missed something.

Thanks for the greetings and as for the familiar avatar, I posted a few times under the name mark_nec and used the same avatar with him...

SentrySteve is mostly right, except buildings are now longer translucent and fade in.  They appear normally, except when they're not built they show a yellow circle around their base.  The yellow circle shows the construction progress and slowly fills in as you 'use' it.  Once it is fully built, a blue circle draws around the base, showing the building's health.  A welder can be used to repair marine structures.

ah, good change.  I'm guessing that before being built they are positioned in a compact manner and upon completion they fold out as shown by the multiple states of the buildings on RR?

Yep gwahir, each building has its own animation apon being completely built, they are incredibly cool... trust me. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Umm the blue health indicator appears always? or its just when you are aiming at the building? like cs, when you point at a friend the health shows up.

How do alien buildings, erm, "grow"? Do lvl 2's have to stand near them and "use" them too, or once they are place do they just "grow" on their own?

They will grow on their own, but a builder can help it grow faster by pressing his use key.

Marine building health is only displayed when fairly near the building and looking at it.

If you were building something on the marine team, could one of your team mates come and help you to speed up the process? Also if you were building something then stopped could another marine take over the project and complete it from were you left off?
