My p4 3.06ghz can barely run the demo at 640*480... That really doesn't make me want to try the full game <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
My AMD Athlon 3.0GHz, 512 MB of RAM, GeForce Ti4800 has trouble running the demo as well. I'm waiting to see how people find the full game, or for them to release another demo. (:

Pfft. Feel sorry for us poor MX card owners, who <b>can't run it at all!</b>
Despite the fact a GF2 standard can..... <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Some people consider 30fps 'good.' If that's the case, then I guess it runs 'good' on my machine. Other people, like myself, consider 'good' to be 60-85+ FPS.
Reading the Ion Storm forums, some people with P4 3.x's and Radeon 9800's say the game runs like crap, and have to pop it down to 800x600 to get a good frame rate. Me, I got on average 30fps, depending on the area. (AMD Barton @ 2800+, 512DDR, GF4 Ti4400) It was too slow to be enjoyable. And the interface sucks so much as to only make the experience even more un-enjoyable.
It hurts me to rat on this game like this. It was my most anticipated title, next to Half-Life 2 and Tribes : Vengeance. The demo smashed my hopes for this game, and the fact that you have to edit the game's .ini file to fix problems that are in both the demo AND final retail version, really knocks my faith in the developers.
I mean for Pete's sake, you have to go uncheck the read-only tag on the config file if you want it to save any of your settings. What WAS the Quality Assurance people playing?
*sigh* I can only hope for a patch... and an updated demo with the aforementioned patch. Anyway, I don't want to make this into another topic about how disappointing it was for me. You can make your way over to the Developers forums at www.ionstorm.com/forum if you want to read the reactions, and performance observations.
There probably wasn't any QA. I'm guessing it was rushed out to make the lucretive holiday period, via publisher pressure. (Especially seeing as how theres no HL2 now to steal the majority of the limlight) About a third of all games are released in the 3-4 week run up to christmas, and probably another third just before the end of the financial year,(which leads to the summer games drought that we often see) a rediculous situatation that seems to be limited mostly to the games industry. The publishers are desperate to get the game out to maximise their profits before the end of year figures are calculated, setting a deadline that most developers find impossible to meet and still be happy with the final product. Most of the QA happens after the game has gone gold and then a patch is released almost within the same week the game hits the shelves. Fortunatly in Europe we have to wait til sometime next year to recieve the game as the localisation isn't finished. Hopefully by the time thats done, the game should be mostly finished.
