ok HL2 single player will rule if TF2 is its multiplayer i say WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO "long gaping breaths" now HL multiplayer only took off with TFC rmeber that TFC is still fun today and im hoping like hell HL2 multiplayer will be TF2, but enought about that, we all know HL2 has veicles and that its engine is great, now my major consern is that HL2 does not allow air units, yes thats a big bugger isent it since HL2 has no playable air units it can be asumed air suport for players will be crap, Now idea for mods lol like NS4.0 or something, i have always wanted a proper RTS/FPS NS kinda doues it but not in the scale i want mix C&C renigade size buildings with NS coomander system thren throw in a couple of Ghost In a Shell walking tanks, automated flying rescource collectors that must be ortected to keep your res coming in and automated infintary and tanks, so your teams kinda like a few units in an entire army (now if that dont sound sweet i dunno what is).

I have no concerns. In the highly unlikely event of HL2 being a huge amount of poop, I'll be buying it for the huge wave of modifications that will follow. And I'm sure most problems could be fixed with a few patches from Valve.

Would Valve even allow HL2 to be released if it wasnt as good as they wanted it? They've held back CS:CZ until they get it to at least a half decent game, (although its related to CS so dont count on it)

I think the reason that HL2 isn't out yet is because Valve have so much power and control over their own projects. Now, if a small time Dev company is coming close to the deadline and the game isn't quite finished, chances are the publisher will rush the game out of the door anyway just to make money. "Patches solve everything" seems to be their motto.
Now, with valve, it's a different story. They've made what was widely seen as the best game in gaming history, and the publisher knows it's going to make a fortune when it's released, so they can afford to wait a while to release it.

    Anyway... onto my concerns:

    A) bad reviews putting the game down. I'm sorry, no matter how good HL2 is, there's no way it's going to live up the hype it's generated. If it does, i'll bow down to valve and acknowledge them as my masters. Games reviewers are people too, and if they're dissapointed when it doesn't live up to the hype, it'll show in the review/score and put people off.

    B) Slow mod scene at the start. I knoew quite a few planned HL2 mods, and quite frankly, i don't think they can live up to their own ambitions. A lot of them are going to crash and burn once they realise they can't manage to do what they want to, i think.

    C) Just general suckiness. I doubt it'll happen, but since HL2 started development as soon as HL1 was released, i sure hop Valve have kept up with the rest of the world as to what people want in their FPS' nowadays. HL1 was basically "run shoot press button run back press shoot" with some nifty AI and a good (ish) story. people want a bit more out of games these days.

I'll buy it though. no matter what reviews or anyone else says. If only to see the graphics and how it ends, i'll buy it...

My only concern is the release date... they better release it before the summer or hopefully before otherwise I'm going to get angry (and when that happens I become green and naked)

My only concerns with HL2 is that VALVe may not have provided better protection against cheaters than they have done with HL1 with VAC(it's better than nothing but...) and that stalkers x-ray engine is probably going to be much better at outdoorsy environments(hey it supports rendering 200k polygons per sec on average(whatever that is) hardware at 60 FPS if you believe the makers of the game), for performance reasons HL2 mappers should use only ~4000 world polygons(I am pretty sure this info is correct but it may have become slightly out of date) and some unknown(at least to me) amount of entity polygons. This makes HL2 more of an indoor engine.

It'd be perfect for a new version of NS but not for really large outdoor MODs with lots of trees and houses and what not.

But most of the HL2 material shown is set outdoors, and the environments look pretty huge.
