<div class="IPBDescription">On the Sylph server.</div> I FINALLY got FFXI going and so far it's really good, except for the fact I don't know many people on the server I play on. My guild is semi-inactive due to real life stuff. So anyone here play on the Sylph FFXI server?

My ingame name is Dranak, I know a hume being a thief isn't the BEST selection of a race but meh.

    I got it, and I don't know what server I'll be on(haven't started or installed yet, gotta wait for ma's cred card), but its whichever one one of my friends is on.

    i hear you cant pick a server...unless someone already in that server buys a "world pass" witch will let you put in the pass and you can join that server but other than that it puts you on a random server

    I played roulette for about 30 min with the servers and got it. Just hit esc when it asks you to put the account on a handle then hit esc, then back to the char delete screen, check the server and if it's the wrong one, delete and start agian.

    The mere fact that you have to do this to play with your friends is enough to put me off from <i>ever</i> playing this.

    Really, what were they thinking when they implemented random servers? Ugh.

    Reason why was because in all other MMOs they have big problems with one server being bogged down to holy hell while the others have tons of extra bandwith.

    It's a decent reason, I suppose.

    However, MMO's are supposed to be a social and teamwork thing. So cutting the player away from their friends isn't exactly encouraging teamwork, is it? My friend and I were considering duoing characters together, but once we learned about world passes, it kinda got put to the back of our priority list.

    True, true. Especially being world passes are damned expensive and they only let the person start a new character.
