Ns Doesn't Set Gamma. Also Green Text

wingwing Join Date: 2003-06-05 Member: 17040Members
I'm using the NS 2.0 Steam beta, and for some reason when NS starts a game, it doesn't set the gamma high like it usually does, so everything is dark.

I also have green text, even though I don't have two monitors.

Help?

I got this time from time using WON. I use opengl also. On ns 3.0 i have not had this problem yet. So wait till 3.0 comes out and play 2.0 using WON. Rebooting ur PC or restarting HL also seems to fix the problem.

is there a script or a command I could use to set the gamma on my own? I already tried 'gamma "x"' x being the variable. Is there a specific thing I have to do?

What kind of graphics card and monitor do you have? We want to fix this for 3.0 but we don't have enough data on it yet.

And Max, sure. I'm using a GeForce Ti4200, tried it with two different driver sets, The omega drivers (which I'm using now) and the 55.03 series (I think it was that number...). Both had the problem, and I'm going to go ahead and assume it is driver independent as I have observed this problem with other driver sets I've been using. I could be wrong, however.

Also interesting to note that the problem seems to go away with custom maps. Another problem to note is that when I have green text the HUD sprites seem to dim (when playing aliens). This, and the the text is not an issue on custom maps.

If you need any more info Max, just pm/aim me.

EDIT: My monitor is a Hitachi CM715

I'm gonna jump in here since Max said you guys need more info on this problem and when it occurs. Another very repeatable (if you've got this windows version available to you anyway) instance of where this occurs is in windows server 2003.

I've made a prior post about it here: http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...ST&f=18&t=51469

But, I've got a bit more information now anyway, so I'll continue..

NS's gamma doesn't get set in Win2003 or the PDC Longhorn build (this one is beta so you probably don't care, but the problem existing there removes the validity of people saying 'it doesn't work because win2003 is a server os'), with the message "Display doesn't support downloadable gam" [gamma, obviously]. Mulitple monitors are not involved. I've duplicated it on 2 very different systems (both running windows 2003), with specs as follows:

Custom AMD box:
Athlon XP 2000+ on via kt333
ATI Radeon 9500, catalyst 3.8
KDS 19" monitor (tried both manufacturer inf and plug and play default one)
Running NS (2.0, i'm not in the 3.0 beta) in 800x600 Opengl, not using steam
Was running Windows 2003
(this computer is now win2000 so I can play ns properly, but I'd like the issue to be fixed so I can move back)
(this is also the computer that I tested the problem on with windows longhorn beta)

Dell Poweredge server:
Dual P4 Xeon 2.0ghz
PCI Nvidia Geforce2MX, Driver version 53.03
MAG 19" monitor
NS 2.0, 800x600 in opengl, also not steam
Running Windows 2003
(This computer is staying on win2003 for obvious reasons, but it was useful in determining that the problem isn't restricted to my first computer or even to ATI cards in general)
(I'd be happy to test new versions on this computer if you don't have access to windows 2003 server anywhere)

Let me know if you want me to run any other tests or give any more information.. I'd like to help get this problem fixed.

I'm having the same problem running Server 2003.

"Display does not support downloadable gam" and it's very dark.

OpenGL @ 1280x960
Windows Server 2003, no "roles" enabled, all windowsupdates
DirectX 9.0b
All hardware accelleration enabled

NVidia GeForce 4 ti 4400 (128meg), whql certified build 5216
Viewsonic P95f monitor with correct inf installed

Aye, same problem.

"Display does not support downloadable gam".

Actual game is visible and okay, but all player names are green on the score card, names of people in the ready room are almost unreadable on the score card, alien structure placement icons on topleft corner are almost black, and the entire commander hud part is almost black.

Clearly, something is amiss, and the game tells about it.

OpenGL @ 1152x864
Windows Server 2003
DirectX 9.0b
GeForce 4MX (nForce2)

Anyone got any idea what could be done about it, please? I can live with it most of the time, but commanding is neigh impossible. Thanks.
