Ok, so i wanted to donate and i wanted that nice icon next to my name. The guide says to include STEAM is and I download Steam, install and everything is textbook smooth. I donate, I got my stuff together, right?

I have been playing Surftown servers more than I care to admit and I would like to continue playing with them savvy cats but now I can't. Their protocol is older than mine...

Thank you Steam, you took away my favourite servers and instead I got:

- HUGE CHAT THAT BLOCKS MY VIEW
- Gigantic X-hairs that take up 1/4 of the screen
- Almost Zero servers, all of them crappt and/or laggy
- I still (two days later) cant see any Constellation Icon

In summary: Do NOT install Steam.

If ANYONE has a fix for anything other than the Font thing, PLEASE tell me.

EDIT: As Kisan was so kind to note, I havent included the correct info.
1024x768 (or however that goes)
W2k fully updated
OpenGL
Never had ANY problem with WON version

A very angry

Well 400x300 resolution probably doesn't help the size of what is on your screen.

I managed to get ns 2.0 running ok under steam, however if you have constellation then you should now have access to the 3.0 beta test, which has less steam related bugs, try installing that, if that still doesnt work then report them as ns 3.0 bugs through the proper channels.

Yeah, I am playing 3 exclusively now. I'd rather play 2 on my fave servers tho but I guess they will update some day ;o)

You can still play WON Half-Life, you know...if you chose to delete it when you installed Steam, then just reinstall. You can have both installed at the same time.

I found lowering the priority of the Steam process while hl.exe is running makes the lag somewhat less noticable unless there's actually activity on the screen (am using WinXP so the Task Manager allows it manually). If people can confirm it helps, a program to monitor for hl.exe start and lower steam's priority would be pretty trivial for me to write.

(Yes, here and not at steampowered because it's most likely visible to high-poly mods like NS, and their forums and posters are, erm, nevermind)

[edit] So for anyone in XP or who has tools to manipulate a process: try setting Steam's priority to minimum and running Natural Selection (I used the shortcut, though running it directly from the steam menu should also work). I will be marking like a mad fool for the next few days, so there's lots of time for feedback.

Someone posted a tool to steam-powered that jacks up HL's priority which (though slightly more dangerous), will also work. So far as I know there is no way dropping the priority of steam.exe can break anything, and you can always fix it in the Task Manager or (worst case) through a reboot. [/edit]

Please do it, possibly have it raise HL's priority.. I'd try to confirm it, but when I alt-tab out of hl, then back in, my fps drops to 10

If i do this, i can put it back to normal right, and it wont mess anything up?
I dont know why your having problems. You may want to wait for 3.0 which has full steam support.

I've heard that the ns 2.0 steam beta helps with a lot of the trouble that happens with steam+ns http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/in...ST&f=31&t=49430
