He's gotta point. . .
Nevertheless, Solo and myself might be up for it. Sounds interesting. I'd love to pit my skills against people who think they are l 3 3 t.
Testing balanced isn't best used by vet players. It has to be a mixture of newbies and vets.

There is a HUGE difference in obtaining a veteran status because you sent a few bux to Flay and being a veteran in the eyes of other players.
Someone who sent money to Flay and is a "vet" might find it hard to kill a skulk while a TRUE vet kills a fade single handedly and thinks nothing of it, heh.
Seriously though... What you're proposing is a gather / PUG. Why do you think your gather will be any better at illustrating balance than the hundreds of thousands of gathers that already have been played and are being played on a regular basis. They certainly won't illustrate balance any better than an average clan match will, as your teams will not have played together as a team before.
If you want to see some gather games played on your server, i suggest finding the community irc channel for whatever region you are in and advertising it for use in gather/PUGs.
The only way we can get excellent players is to clone HAMBONE once and SHAMPOO a couple of times.
Then pit them against each other in a 6v6 game. One HAMBONE in each team, and 5 SHAMPOOs in both teams.
exactly what the explo... erhm, TeoH said..
Qnet is full of gather channels btw
You don't want to balance it for the perfect game, you want to balance for the average.

Go find the eR vs. HAM CAL final demos if you want to see good gameplay, and it turns out that believe it or not, NS 2.01 is actually quite balanced.
I vote Zippy[Zip] as lead alien! Man that dude is too good for his own good. If that makes sense.
Ahem. Shamelessly idolising players is not Flame material guys. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

shut up
You have the 2.0 vets,
the new 3.0 "open" vets
and consties. (Anyone who was kind enough to donate $20 or more to Flay.)

believe it or not, hes right. only way to tell if a game is balanced, is by having EQUAL skill level, which is impossible, so all in all.... it's impossible to have a balanced game

Balance is on all levels. That's why it's near impossible with a game like NS. The teams are too radically different to give a nice balance. If EVERYONE aims really well, and everyone's game is nearly flawless, then marines have an advantage. If the game is pub play, and people can't aim, can't listen orders and fall to every single ambush on the way, then aliens will have advantage. If you want balance, you'd need to look for balance for the most widely used class of players. And that isn't the 12 top players out there, but rather the average pubber.
I need some input about maxplayers and such. I am thinking 8 vs 8, that is my first idea.
I know a very good commander and I have a few volunteers. I dont know many of you here at the NS.org forums but I do know the skills of a few of the regs at the server I play at. If anyone is in CAL please tell me so I can take that into consideration. Also I will need an idea of how big I need the HLTV server to be. how many players should be allowed to be connected.
I will be updating my first post with current settings, rules, and registered players. Feel free to shoot somone down if you play with them and know they are not ""elite"" Same for the otherway around. If you know somone good then tell me. A person that does not come with recognition from at least one other player will not be considered
As far as the 3.0 concern. Well. I dont have 3.0
And as it is for steam I may not even getting it. And I know a great deal of other players that feel the same way, we will be stuck with 2.01 because of our thickheadedness and fear of change that we wont use steam. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

So this will not be played via steam? I don't know if you mentioned that before, but if you didn't you should, as I am sure a lot of people here just play on steam (I do for 1).
