EVE Industrial Ship
ns_mammoth
Lo, there.
I was mining for a couple of hours with my friend today in the MMORPG EVE.
I had my little Navitas, while he had his huge Mammoth, which is the longest ship in the game, even larger than the Battleships.
After an hour, I started to think that the Mammoth could be a great map for NS. I suppose any other big ship would, but this is the only one I've been able to see up close, that is also huge (forget the frigates).
Let me first tell you facts of the ship:
- Half the size of the cargo container (right next to "Drone Bay, Hive 1) is the size of my Navitas, which is pretty large.
- It has 5 "rooms", each that has it's own bridge, and one large bridge.
- Mass 12,500,000kg
- Volume 11,200,000m3

Docking Bay, Marine Start
I suppose you could attach a smaller ship to the docking back, which is where the marines spawn from without infantry portals (round start, distress beacon). The command station could be nearby, just inside, or in the cockpit.
Drone Bay, Hive 1
Yes, it's close to the marine spawn, but not that close if you're walking to it.
As you can see, the Drone Bay has two sides. One with an opening to space, which is where the ship's drones fly out and in (mining/ighting drones). It would be awsome if there could be some unused, shutdown drones in there. They look like this. They're AI controlled, so they have no cockpit (I'd say three, maybe four times an onos, maybe even five).
Anyways, to actually get to the Drone Bay hive, you have to get past it, on the drone exit, around the Bridge, visiting Hive 2 on the way (or a walkway near it), then back. Hope that's understandable?
Bridge
This is a huge walkway, with several doors to weld down/vents to crawl through.
You could make the doors breakable with a rather heavy damage so that aliens can destroy their way through. Not nessecarely the door, but perhaps a wall near it.
Please, do not make it a large sniper hallway. Make several corridors. The bridge isn't as tiny as it looks.
Cargo Bay, Hive 2
Familiar name, eh? Well, this is where the ship stores it's ore, which it has mined from the asteroid. There is no refinery. That is done on a Spacestation, so leave that out.
Make several rooms, on 2 or 3 levels (stairs/elevator), with lots of cargo in it. I suggest the hive is either on the top floor or the bottom floor, depending on where you get in from the bridge.
There is one bridge that goes to the Engine Room. The other "bridge" (as you can tell, the ship has two bridges connecting each room) is just metal used to connect the cargo and engine room.
Engine Room, Hive 3
Last hive, last room. This one contains fuel containers and the engines of the ship. I picture this one pretty dark and damp, sort of like the choal engine rooms for old ships, á la Titanic (if you've seen that movie). Not much else to say about this room.
Hope somebody will concider this one. Since the ship's name is Mammoth, I wouldn't mind having it names ns_mammoth, but of course, that's up to the mapper. If you're concidering doing it, please, don't hesitate with questions.

The map is called "ns_trust", according to the cargo carrier's name "CC trust 1083" on which all the action takes place. I got one hive in the engine room, one in a cargo bay and one in the ship's bridge. The marines spawn in the docking bay. You see, quite similar to what you have in mind
The layout is finished and I'm currently working on lighting, tweaking and adding more detail. I expect a release of the first playable version in around 2 weeks.
Everyone should still feel free to build a map like this, I'm just saying that something like this is already in the works
It would have flickering light, dead marines, blood ont he walls - everything Flayra doesn't want
I like maps like that. Maps that adds to the game.
