The Valve ERC and Wavelength are some great places to get started. You can use Worldcraft 2.1 which can be found on the HL cd, or download WC 3.3 from valve-erc.

ok , i got another prob 1.how the #### i can know how big is player and then how big tunnels i have to make to get them "normal" size
2.if i greate a object i cant add weapons and players starts - just some poor poxes , tesks medkits - wtf happens ?
and when i make level before and texture after then thats is better way to make maps or i texture all the time when i make something ready ?

Personally, I texture while building, not after. Though some people believe it to be a better practice to do it afterwards.

As far as your other questions go, they sound a bit too general to be discussed on these forums. This is a great place to get help on NS specific questions, but for more general or basic mapping questions, try the valve-erc or wavelength forums.

It may even be a good idea to design a standard HL deathmatch level before you venture into NS mapping. Just to get basic HL mapping down.

ok , ill try that
now comes other question - how to texture hole sector all sides at time ?

To select more than one surface at a time, hold down ctrl when selecting. You really should direct these questions to a more general halflife mapping forum though.

I agree with this fully. Not only are your first few maps (unfortunately) going to suck, but NS mapping involves a lot more than just HL deathmatch because of commander mode and the different means of motion that the humans and aliens have. Besides, you shouldn't feel the need to rush a map out if it's going to be so bad that nobody's gonna play it. Take your time, we'll wait

ken, its great to know that someone else out there textures as they go. people always nag me about that.

also, that is a great idea to make a regular dm map first.

however, ns is going to be very heavy on the entity work, so i strongly suggest building a single-player map.

i remember downloading the first 3 or 4 levels to hl in .map form a while ago. perhaps you can still do this and then you can see what all there is.

i got another question - how to i no is that level is in normal size - maybe i think i just grated a little room but in game its gonna be so big that its reminds more spaceship ?

you must place an info_player_spawn in your level, this creates a box where the player stands into if the game starts. This is about the size of a player.

is there another way then? i don't know a mapper who textures his level AFTER he built it.

I texture and light the map as I go, and often will even detail as I go... So sue me.

Right cd, this is your first HL map. That's why I suggest you design a standard DM level first. Just to get the hang of the way half-life editing works. There is a lot of complex entity work and design specifications in NS that one who isn't familiar with standard HL mapping might find a bit overwhelming.

Thank ye Jacius.

Another thing to read would be the FAQ for the Mapping forum, which you're supposed to read before you post here with questions (since we're not the best place to teach you basic mapping techniques).
