Gentoo, 2.01 And 3.0?

Curious to see if there are any fellow Gentoo users out there. Gentoo Linux has a very nice package system (called Portage), and NS is included in this system (games-server/halflife-ns). Problem is, the ebuilds (the files that describe how to get a package and install it) are for versions 1.04 and 2.0, there is no 2.01.

Has anyone gone to the trouble to make new ebuilds (I am not sure who maintains this part of portage) for 2.01, or anyone going to do them for 3.0? I could look into it if anyone is interested, though I have never written an ebuild before .

One other thing, the current 2.0 ebuild points to http://gamefiles.blueyonder.co.uk/blueyond...n/server/win32/, needless to say, thats not a linux copy of the dedicated server files.

If the ebuild did point to the correct location I would think you could just install it, and then copy the 2.01 .so file over as that's the only difference between 2.0 and 2.01

Cool. Wont 3.0 make big changes for servers though? (I am just now getting into Linux, and its been awhile since I hosted a CS server way back in 1.4 days) Hopefully someone will have an e-build, or at least there should be one for CS that can be easily changed to work for NS steam.

I would think 3.0 will be a completely different setup. In that case you would need the ebuild if someone made one. Knowing nothing about Gentoo or who created that ebuild of it I can't say if they will or not. setting it up the old fashioned way should work just fine though.
