An Observation On Fps In Steam Ns

darkened screen has 2x FPS of regular
no, not black, darkened, as in when you hit esc. i pull about 30 fps in STEAM NS, but when i hit esc to check friends list or refresh servers, it maxes out at 60.3 (yes, i know about refresh rate, no reason changing it until i figure out this problem). what i was wondering was, is there some way to replicate the changes that the darkened screen makes? i've noticed no real differences other than sprites not animating, and figured it might be a decent way to make the new version as playable (regarding framerate) as 1.04 was.

You get a FPS gain because the game is "paused" somewhat.

Nah, I think it has to do with sprites. Steam in general is slower because more is rendered using sprites or vgui or something like that. Even in old half-life NS is slower than CS because there are more sprites on the hud. I don't know if there is a fix though.

Yeah its probably a mixture of everything, although its not imdediately obvious, the engine has less to render, try stretching the browser window across the whole screen (might not make a difference in 1024 or less) that should take ur frame rate down nicely

Actually because the game doesn't care about what's happening in the game, so it pays less attention to it, including frame renders.
