Voice Communication Animation

<div class="IPBDescription">is it present?</div> In CS, when someone talks, it makes a certain part of their model (mouth, duh) move along with the wave form... same with scientists in the single player game. Apparently all you have to do is specify an attachment or controller or something and it does it.

I didnt notice any of this in NS... maybe I just missed it though, it can be quite subtle.

Anyone wanna make an ONOS thats mouth moves while it talks? Might not even have to make any code (?) It sure has a big mouth, so it might look pretty kewl

Or maybe not for the suspension of disbeleif factor (to see an Onos roar, then open its mouth and say 'omgz lol!' in a 12 year old voice).

there are models that do it, but i will be very mad if the ns team decides to add permanent mouth moving models.

It would be nice to see the marine models talk when that person is using his voice comm, but certainly not aliens.

I think i remember this one someone correct me if im wrong.

It was something to do with the models especially on rines not being made to have a seperate moving jaw and it wasnt that simple to change unless a whole bunch of new models were created.

Couldn't the model have some animation that moves his left arm toward the mouth, like having a comm device on the wrist? I reckon seeing on the hl model viewer that there's already an instance of that, only it's like the idle one... Is it that difficult?

    When if ever do you:

    a) notice a rines mouth/head area
    b) care if u see his mouth moving when he is talking

im sure the average onos wont go oooooohhhhh pretty and leave the rine alone

and also, the mouth doesn't move with the waveform in CS... it just moves up and down, like in Japanese cartoons.

well, its just there for completeness, and i do notice it alot when im getting ammo from the armoury, and the humpers start using voice comm. i never seen the mouth move and it just seemed like it was some sort of psychic mind communication or something <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

And also, with HAs, it's kind of pointless because there's not really a mouth... imagine seeing the face plate of an HA stretching up and down... oh god, I'm gonna get nightmares for weeks...

there have been models released... although, they are not official, you will not be able to join a server with mp_consistency set to 1...

not many servers have this on, but ones that have had a problem with cheaters probably do. you can check this in the "server info" window in the HL server browser, or in the server info window on server browsers like ASE and HLSW.

    now, for that link...

since this is a custom model, you will have found it in the NS Customization forum... and indside this forum <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=19&t=57113' target='_blank'>is a topic that holds 90% of ALL released models</a>, and inside that... we find <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=19&t=49671&st=15' target='_blank'>this thread talking about the process</a> and that thread has the <a href='http://www.haxgames.com/voicealiens.zip' target='_blank'>DOWNLOAD (for talking aliens)</a>

i remeber once there was a marine model done... but i can not find a link, check back to that official release topic, ill make one in a few days.

Even though it would make the game more realistic (well, as realistic as a Sci-Fi game can be <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->), I would prefer that the dev-team puts all their work in 3.0 logics code.

I would love to see moving mouths, seeing as how NS has more voice communication than any other mod I've seen. Even the aliens could have moving mouths, although maybe just limited to grunts and alien sounds.

Some people do notice it and enjoy the effect I'm sure. Personally the only time I ever noticed it was when someone was using a proggy to play music through the voicecomm (bypassing the microphone entirely). It was some annoying sea shanty-ish music in TFC. But, yes, I think the only reason people want it is for the feeling of completeness it provides.

Heck I would enjoy just having it, even if I take it for granted. But official models with this capability should not take up any of Unknown World's Entertainment's time, especially time reserved for anything more serious. But when 3.0 is released, and after the dev team has a nice vacation, then... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

I released a version of the standard Marine with a moving mouth about a month or so Back, It was about a 20 minute job to make it work. If you search through the Custom forum it shouldnt take too long to find it

Yeah I think I remember that thread too actually. Who was it who challenged you to make the model "since you claim it is so easy" (in his words).
Well on second thought, don't answer that, no need to reopen old wounds.

So then it isn't all that hard at all eh? Perhaps we could have legal versions of this soon enough.
