<div class="IPBDescription">Suck.</div> Before, I endorsed Red Orchestra.
Before, I endorsed SAS.
But frankly-
they both suck.
Red Orchestra is BEAUTIFUL. Almost as beautiful as the original UT 2k3. Problem is- certain huge gameplay mechanics are done quite shoddily. Like when you go prone- you stop, and the camera is suddenly WAY down below you, where your at. Also, it uses the recoil system- you shoot, gun goes up. I love the level of realism it contains, but it just isn't fun. I know its a beta, but public betas should be fun first and foremost.
SAS has some good maps, problem is- animations in general suck. Looks like they literally copied the crouch and crouch walk animation from Counterstrike(which is a good animation), but the way they hold the guns as well as the way they walk standing with said guns makes them look quite...well, they don't look like SAS. Also, the character textures are terribly blurry, and generally not that fun to look at. And the most annoying thing(I'm ok with the breathing thing), but if your moving, your weapon CANNOT, and I repeat, CANNOT go below head level. It forces itself back up! I don't understand WHAT this has to do with realism, but to me its just STUPID. Especially being that many of the maps are done wonderfully, with multiple layers, with people being able to shoot at you from above and below, making this a fatal mistake.
Don't get me wrong- I LOVE realistic games. Americas Army is one of my favorites games, that I play quite heartilly. I love the weapons and fighting style in Red Orchestra, but it just doesn't feel fun after lots of playing. But it feels like its on the right track. SAS on the other hand, feels like they need to take the mappers, then beat the crap out of everything else.

Comments
I dunno, usually when someone goes prone, their eyesight teeeends to be closer to the ground.
As for the recoil thing... well, heh. No need for comment on that.
In other words, personal opinion.
Know what "Going Prone" means?
Don't like DoD then because of that kind of Recoil? Is it just that you're bad with that type of recoil that you don't like it, or that you just don't like it? It takes a while to get used to, but sooner or later you don't notice it.
Sorry I didn't clarify. Heres a great example- imagine watching a movie, and every time the camera moved, lets say to the right, it freezes- pop, its a bit to the right, pop, its a bit to the right, so on. Thats not good in a game that has great player animations. Not to mention, I think diving should be in the game, just because...well, they did it.
