Fallout 2
<div class="IPBDescription">help plz kthx!</div> Has anyone played this game before?
I heard a lot of good things about this game, but I just can't get into it. I really really want to though, the storyline interests me, and the whole atmosphere of the game seems pretty cool. Anyways,I think one of the reasons might be because i sux at it, so perhaps you guys have some tips for making a character and at least getting through the very beginning part of the game?

You rock.
It's clear that you don't know the two games and it's communities, but this just made me chuckle. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

and they still haven't sold out! [knocking on wood using a horseshoe with my fingers crossed]
fallout 2...
one of my favorite things to do after starting a new game in fallout 2 was to roam around the wasteland until i came upon a fight between two factions. after one party won, they usually wouldn't shoot ya, as far as i remember.. maybe the hubologists shoot ya...
but yeah. roam around until you hit a random area, where people are fighting. watch a fight from the sidelines, and then loot the corpses. you can get some nice pieces, before you're good enough to steal better stuff.
edit: never pay for anything legitimately...!!! well.. avoid it XD
Indeed ... play the first one first since in part 2 they refer to part 1 alot
Have a very high agility to starty with. 9 is a good number. You can do a lot more in combat with a good agility stat.
Also boost your strength and endurace up. 7-8 for each is good. Strength lets you carry more stuff & fight better in melee, and being tough always helps in the wasteland.
Keep your intelligence up as well (Stating to get the picture? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->) It may not help as much in the begining, but it comes in handy later. I consider 7 a minimum.
Don't have a statistic below 4 or 5 if you can help it.
Get the 'Gifted' trait (Boosts all stats +1, all skils weakened, but stats>skills IMO)
Do not get the 'Skilled' trait. (Perks >>>> stats)
Some tips:
1) Bargain like there is no tomorrow. Squeeze every coin for all it's worth.
2) If you aren't big on shooting for critical areas (ie: the eyes) get the fast shot perk. It's worth it.
3) Talk to everyone. You can learn critical details for your missions, and sometimes get free stuff (try people in the bar in the first town - he boosts your skill in unarmed comabat!)!
4) Try a female charater. It's a different ballgame from the male perspective..
5) Save. Save again. Save more. Save now. Now is a good time to save your game. So is this time, and this time, and this time.... etc. Save.
neg, stealing is where it's at when u need to have equipment.
And remember, EVERY item you leave somewhere in the game will stay there FOREVER. So collect every tradable item you see (things with high weight and low resell value should just be left behind) and setup caches of tradable stuff in towns like the den.
and if you really wanna get ahead on tradability. Get that steal skill and go to san fransisco first thing. You can steal your money back from the shopkeepers there and can build your cache up really fast right away. I did this and never had an item that I couldn't afford throughout the entire game.

Personally, when it came to buying something thoughout the game, if i couldn't steal it from the merchant, i'd steal as much as i need from that merchant to trade for the item i want, then i'd trade him back his own stuff for what i want. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
<b><span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'>THIEF!!</span></b>
I try and play the "Savior of the Wastes" and we can't have the S.O.T.W. stealing, now can we? If you are so inclined however (as [WHO]them & esuna apparently are), stealing does work.
I'm at the endgame and have just over 2200 karma.
I plan on restarting sometime soon with a completely hacked character to make the experience even more interesting.
Female, All attributes at 10. All skills at 300. Using the Red Ryder LE BB Gun as a weapon and hacking myself a stash of 2000 or so rounds. And all the while wearing the bridgekeeper's robes, but modified to give even better protection than APA:MKII .
Then I'll try to hack myself some perks such as cult of personality and just play the whole thing homicidally.
It doesn't? Ooo.....
OO

lol totally imagine the actual act of theft taking place in real life...
must take a LOT of skill points to lift someone's assault rifle right out of their grasp without them knowing XD
I haven't stolen (much) in Fallout 1 or 2, but if a person has his/her weapon drawn I don't think you can steal it. You are correct though - taking a minigun off of someone requires a good steal skill.
I made the president kill himself, I timed some C4 at 1min and used the steal menu to place it on him then ran out of the room.
The guards didnt blink an eye.
It's an 18 y/o female so that I can play the other parts of the story. But here's the kicker....
She starts off with 10 in every attribute
I left her the hint guide from my previous game, so all her skills are at 300 and she has all the useful perks I could want.
I left here the bridgekeeper's robes, red ryder bb gun, red ryder le bb gun, and johnny's bb gun, but they were all modified for a "mission from god" style gameplay.
BridgeKeeper's Robes became:
Blessed Robes
"These sacred threads have been blessed by a very angry radioactive God. Even Satan himself could not pierce this material."
Stats: Basically Invulnerable to everything.
Johnny's BB Gun became:
Blessed BB Gun - Bomb
"This toy has been blessed by a very angry radioactive God. It has been endowed with the power to make thine enemies explode from within."
Stats: Insane range, 1 ap to use. Enough damage to automatically kill anything I hit. Modified for explosive damage. So basically anything I hit explodes into a bunch of gibs.
Red Ryder LE BB Gun became:
Blessed BB Gun - Melt
"This toy has been blessed by a very angry radioactive God. It has been endowed with the power to melt the flesh from thine enemies."
Stats: Insane range, 1 ap to use. Enough damage to automatically kill anything I hit. Modified for plasma damage. So basically anything I hit melts into a pile of goo.
Red Ryder BB Gun became:
Blessed BB Gun - Fire
"This toy has been blessed by a very angry radioactive God. It has been endowed with the power to set thine enemies ablaze."
Stats: Insane range, 1 ap to use. Enough damage to automatically kill anything I hit. Modified for fire damage. So basically anything I hit explodes into a ball of fire and runs around for a bit.
Then I hacked myself a basically infinite supply of weightless BB's and always carry around my magic 8-ball for a bit of spookiness.
It's gonna be hella fun <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
