When ns comes out.
obviously, when ns is released, there will be a huge amount of noobs pouring into the game (myself included). what i think would help ALOT, is if playtesters (because they are already familiar with the game) could sort of guide us noobs for the first few weeks. All im saying is, when they decide to play on a server, just have some sort of distinguishing handle at the end of their nick so that, say they are a marine, and so was i, i could just fallow them around watching how they play (what keeps em alive). same goes for the aliens, to learn all the techniques some of you pt's have already developed . Im not expecting like "alright class, this is an "l" "m" "g"... no Billy, point it THAT way, good boy. Now, to load , first you have to blah blah blah"
but don't be like "HEY NOOB, you f'n tard, blah blah stupid, do like blah blah" Just expect alot of Q's and Noobs

Don't worry. (:
I have this weird feeling all the pts are going to just enjoy destroying us so much, they won't want to help us out lol
Basically, I can't imagine that NS is very hard to learn or play, especially if you've been following the forums. Take S&I for example -- after a few unsuccessful tries, I skimmed through the list of upgrades and found myself as Employee of the Month on half of the games . Of course, the PTs will know what strats work and they'll know the maps, but it's not like every game will be 80% PTs, and I'm sure they'll all be very helpful, just like *most* people are when some CS noob runs around on top of the bombsite, waving the C4 around wildly and looking confused.
*laughs mysteriously*
None of them are going to be newbie hating llamas (the PTers were handpicked for a reason you know, not just randomly) but I see nothing wrong with taking advantage of those people who havent read the manual or practiced in lan/tutorial.
Plus there will be NS guides out.
2. The best way to learn is playing the game. Your own tactics are always better than others
But I bet there will be a damn good manual included and the tooltipps are the most finest in game help I've ever seen.
(Yeah I've seen them, in game)
And I scared my pants off by becoming employee of the week on the third map I played in SI. I was scared because I had no idea what to vote for

1. Actually, NS is pretty complicated for the Newbie. In cs, you just play and everything works out. In NS it is the same, but it takes LOTS of more time, because of the complicity. But, this complicity is also the same thing that makes this game so good.
2. The best way of becoming good in a game is playing the game. Own tactics are better then others. Agreed. However, learning the game is not learning tactics. In the beginning you learn f.e. How to open a door, not the best way of approaching it and going through to not be seen...
How can you say NS is not a hard game if you have not played it?
I'm not trying to flame you, I'm just wondering...

and I think the PTs/devs/ppl in charge are going to have a royal fn time fucken with us and I want ot know WTF IS GOING ON!!!!!!! ;D
umm, PLS read the manual, b/c there is only one thing that realy gets me, when you are playing a semi complex game (GW, EX, WW, and now NS) and you have the same Q asked of you about 5 times per fn game, it gets annoying
I am personaly willing to help a newb however when I am trying to play I don't have the time to sit down and pull the entire teacher thing
normaly I will bind a key to the URL of the manual and tell them to go read it, if they curse at me for this I ignore them, if they go away, read it, and then ask intelegent Qs I will try and help (if I have time)
Obviously they seem to have something planned and wether it is slaughtering us all at day one and laughing at us or some super plot like assigning every pt a server to supervise, you will make them laugh even more not knowing what is to come and guessing about it.
Now... uh, that sounded kinda rude. All I wanted to say was, I think it is funny...
Oh yeah, take some time to go through the tutorial so you'll crush those who haven't been memorizing the various upgrades, alien and marine abilities, and map designs (from commander mode screenies) like we have...

That's almost all the active PTs (including Molec who hasn't been posting much recently) giving oblique hints or laughing in a worrysome matter. Did Flay use that quiz idea where it open up the manual during install and you have to answer a skill testing question? Or did Flay code the ultimate in llama detection that nukes the c:\ drive of any llama? Or am I crazy?
To further sum up my point...
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Some things that a newbie probably won't know:
1) "Use" buildings to build them.
2) "Use" the Armory to get ammunition, but only for the currently equipped gun.
3) Pull up the popup menu to do EVERYTHING as an alien, from building to evolving to calling for help.
4) What buildings are responsible for which upgrades, and which are more important in the early, mid, or late game.
5) Resource management!
6) Siege turrets must be researched at a turret factory before they can be built.
7) Turrets must be placed near a turret factory.
...I could go on, but the manual does a much better (and more interesting) job of it. For anyone who plays NS, reading the manual will make you 10x more effective in your first week of play... 100x for commanders and Gorges (level2, builder aliens).
