Hoping to find other outdoor types here.
Hi there, first time posting on NS's off topic forums, but seeing as this community has a separate "general discussion" OTF instead of lumping it all into a garbage disposal, I thought I might be able to get to know some of the community who enjoys the outdoors, hunting, target shooting, etc...more than just going fishing with your uncle when you go to visit your Grandma over the fourth or smt....you get the idea

So, I imagine you can do whatever, post pics, stories, exactly what activities you do alot. I myself am mostly into target shooting. Don't do any "tactical/practical/combat" events as I don't have the time or money to practice that/pay entry fees. I do alot of trap shooting, actually got onto a team last year at the local club, my dad is on it as well. This same group (and some other teams) have an unofficial sporting clays shoot every year which I'm picking up on pretty well, outscored dad by one clay last year

I also do some archery, I have a nice compound bow and arrows, but not a very good multiple-distance range set up on any of our property, when I get into it though I'm really frigging good at known-distance shots (at one point my groups started to get larger as the arrows would graze/smack those already in the target). I do some bowhunting as well, not as much anymore though.

My favorite shooting activity though would be rifles and benchrest shooting. I use a sawhorse for my bench, which is good enough for 200 yards or so, still trying to get time to get consistent at 100. One reason I love it so much also has to do with the fact that squirrels make quite the tasty stew, and they're tricky targets with a rifle, shotgun's not as much fun .

My newest (and one of my first) rifles to my own collection is a Marlin 17V with a heavy target barrel. A little tricky offhand because it's frontheavy, but because I bought it with the intention of it becoming a "project gun" when I get the time one of the things I plan on doing is putting weights in the rear of the stock to balance it. A great deal for an off-the-shelf rimfire if you're in the market. .17HMR is on average about $10 US for a box of 50, and the rifle itself is accurate, my best group is about the size of a nickel at 100 steps (my 'measuring steps' are about a yard apiece). Not to mention it's a fast little bugger, flat trajectory and a hard hitter, although for those of you who may get a .17HMR rifle for hunting for meat, I'd suggest getting CCI Hollowpoints or something similar rather than the 'V-Max' rounds, as they quite literally will make a rabbit or squirrel explode. Even if you shoot them in the head and don't wreck any meat, it just makes cleaning the animal gross.

Well, hope I didn't waste this long-winded post for nothing, excited to see how many of you may share similar hobbies.
