I've had no problem... I kill clanner gorges all the time. I'll usually get them with my lmg, sometimes for the good ones, I'll have to empty my pistol into their butt. I think the trick is to strafe a LOT to avoid spit, and knowing how to aim while strafing everywhere (tfc skills!). It's about impossible to hit a moving target with spit, if you're running straight at them it's easy. I hardly get hit by spit (haha rhymes), I get hit by healspray if they're good/get desperate.
