<div class="IPBDescription">Tell us what a babbler is!</div>Title says it all. I was going to post something about the "No Summer Release" thing, but someone beat me to it.
Well, coil is taking too long, so I'll answer what meager little bit I know. The babbler is the Gorge's three-hive and most powerful weapon. It releases an AI-controlled skulk with little brains and even less health.
How often can you shoot one off? Are they cosmetically different? Can the babbler wall-climb, or does it just run around? What if you fire a babbler off, and there are no marines around? Does it wait in one place, or run around at random? If it never gets damaged, does it disappear after a set amount of time?
As always, making more questions than answers.

Looking at the NS news page, one can calculate the release of NS: The coding seems to be the slowest going, as it has, perhaps, the least amount of progression between 8/1/02 and 9/17/02, with an increase of only 4%, 92% to 96%. Thus, because we have another 4% to go, and it takes a month and a half to get 4% of the work done in coding, we still have another month an a half to go. Gear up for a Halloween release. I'm going as a skulk, how about you? -- Ryan!, on IRC, being his ever-humorous self, so don't take this too seriously
I doubt this unplanned server move is going to help the release schedule any. Coding is time consuming and poor ole Flayra's the only coder this mod's got. 4% per month sounds like good progress to me.

Just the facts: 1) Babbler is the Gorge (level2)'s 3-hive weapon. 2) A Babbler possesses the AI of your average snark, and behaves similarly. 3) A Babbler looks *exactly* like a Skulk (level1). The only difference is it will die in about 3 LMG bullets. 4) Babblers currently bite for 20 damage, and eventually explode for 40. Numbers are always Subject to Change. 5) Babblers do half damage to marines. 6) 3-4 Babblers will kill an immobilized (due to webbing or paralysis) marine. 7) An un-upgraded Gorge can "fire" about 4 Babblers - one per second or so - before its energy gauge is depleted.
Since they are so weak and can be outrun, Marines often tend to dodge them rather than wasting ammo on 5-6 babblers coming there way. So what you do is play as a skulk, then hang around with babbler-launching gorges. A babbler is a 3-hive weapon, so you wait for for your gorge friend to launch a bunch of them at a group of Marines, then you mix yourself into the swarm herd of babblers - you look just like them remember. The Marines dodge the babblers and start going after the gorge to stop the attack...
Then you xenocide, blowing up three Marines at once.

True, Xenocide does only half damage to marines (versus full damage to buildings) - compare it to "siege" type weapons in Warcraft3 (siege turrets, Babblers, and Grenades also work this way). So a Xenocide probably won't kill a fully healthy marine. However, if you've got a squad of marines trapped in base, being peppered with spikes and spore clouds... you're going to be pretty effective. (:

Do they make cute little "crek" and "Eeet" sounds when they jump around? Do they go "Ek Ek" before they time out and pop?
So many questions, so little time!
