Where Are My Tracers?

I don't see them!
When browsing the NS forums recently I stumbled across a thread about how to improve the look of tracers. Unfortunately, when I tried to alter the image of my tracers, I found a disturbing fact: I couldn't see my tracers from the first person view. In fact, the only time I can recall ever seeing tracers is having them slam into a vent I'm hiding in. Is there some command or option I need to toggle? Or should I be unable to see tracers as marine (for whatever reason that might be)?
I have attempted to alter all values of my tracers, including alpha, speed, length, color values, and offset, but nothing worked.

what do you mean by "tracers"?

If you are an alien, and a marine shoots at you, you might see yellow "lines" (best seen in Half-Life single player when meeting grunts). Those are tracers.

As for your question, Dragon_Mech, I have no idea.

Hmm I thought tracers were rendered with a HL engine function.... I don't have the SDK here so I can't check, but could u post the URL of that article please?

These aren't the default tracer settings, but will give you some nice lengthy red tracers. Adjust traceroffset to change the length (closer to 0 = shorter), and change the tracerred/green/blue to change the color. Anyway, I'm sure you'll be able to find a happy medium for yourself.

    Place these in your autoexec.cfg/userconfig.cfg..

I've done that; in fact, I was trying to change my tracers when I noticed I couldn't see them except when being shot at.

You need to have upgraded (at least Level 1) weapons to 'activate' tracers. Thanks goes to me23 for revealing that in this thread.

I don't see them at any time in the game, Lvl 1 weapons or not. (or 2 functioning phasegates for that matter; I heard that was required as well)
