A Typical Rts Join Program For Ns

Just a thought I had the other day...
This is just wishful thinking, but how cool would it be if NS had a join system similar to that of other RTS games? Essentially you would load up a program seperate from NS and join a room hosted by someone (or yourself), and people could discuss what they were going to do, what the teams would be like, etc. Then once everyone was ready the guy who hosted clicked join and the teams play on an NS server. It would be NS in an environment filled with balanced teams and quite a bit more organization. But then again, just wishful thinking, I doubt this is possible for HL.

Its not too far fetched. It seems pretty easy to add to the rr.

I can see it now : I WANNA BE ON MARINES!!! NO YOUR A FUGGIN NOOB!!! BUT <insert 1337 player here> IS ON MARINES, I WANNA BE TOO. NOOB!!!!! Etc. Unless there is one person that sets all the teams, but that would mean he would set his team the best, so the best answer = ready room.

I think there's a bot on Quakenet that does this for you. You join, assign teams, pick map, and it loads the maps with the right teams.

You're describing a pug with tourney mode on.

I kinda wish NS had some kinda chat box so you could easily talk with others and look at chat history, I'm sure that would help pubbers organize themselves.

IRC works great for this, and is actually in use the way you specify when it comes to PUGs. Other than that, the closest thing pubbers get is the ready room, and all people use it for is to talk POST-GAME or to race each other to the team entrance of their choice.

If more server admins would set a decent amount of time before the game starts, this would be perfectly possible as it is.

For pubs, I would make it possible for admins to remove the readyroom completely.
All players get assigned randomly, there will be no f4ing, and if you reconnect to get in the other team, NS remembers your Steam ID and puts you back in the team you came from.
Also, it prevents people from being afk in the readyroom, or going observer.

Servers with F4 blocked tend to end up with horrible team inbalance, all the worse if the plugin tracks IDs and does an autjoin (they exist!). And, in such situations, no one can correct it. Servers that prevent going observer prevent players from watching the "big picture" and trying to see how x comms, or how certain squads work together and how their tactics match up against person y's ambush strategy, etc...

However, as far as autojoin on afkness, the only problem I've seen with that is getting an afk player on your team.

It wouldn't work for pubs. If a single player leaves, the game is screwed.
