<div class="IPBDescription">NO MODS/EXPANSIONS</div> Just the other day i was playing on a HL server and was thinking to myself what is the best in the ORIGINAL HL. I came to the conclusion that it was the shotgun just beacuse of the double shot that can kill anything in one hit. However, I never fingured out what ranged you would need in order to instantly kill. (The longest place away in order to kill something instantly) Still out all the weapon i had to chose the shottie.

    MP5 because after you get to the soldiers, you always have ammo, and i like blowing things into little chunks with the grenade launcher.

    I would say that the shotty is very comforting to carry around instead of the pistol, but tops for me would be the crossbow.

    nothing beats watching your crossbow bolt fly several hundred feet and catch a grunt right in the dome

    MMMMM! nothing beats a good blow to the head with the crowbar, but i truely suck at melee, even is hacker central (my words for CS.)

    Gauss gun, especially when playing HLDM on Gasworks or Bootcamp. Shooting people through walls while simultaneously gauss jumping 4 stories and landing on a catwalk. Ownage.

    I'd have to go with the Magnum.

    I hate the shotty since I usually play on hard, and at that level you have to point-blank headshot a marine to get a 1-shot-kill, and sometimes not even then. The shotty is only any good against zombies and maybe slaves tbh.

    The magnum on the other hand kills in 2 shots to anywhere and fires faster, so it doesn't matter too much if you don't get a heady the first time.

    *edit* Call me a n00b (and i know someone will), but what does the .357 stand for anyway? Something to do with the size of the bullets or the barrel I assume, but not their diameter since that would make them over a foot long. *edit*

    I'm surprized nobody mentioned the hive hand. The ultimate in headcrab killing, camper-'round-the-corner-capping, and long range fire-and-forget weaponry. Choice between homing ammo or rapid firing with miniscule spread, either way providing excellent accuracy at any range with unlimited ammunition.

    Yeah, and it only takes about 20 shots to take down a marine!

    It is good for headcrab killage only imho.

    Tau Cannon or cross-bow for me as well.
    I like "Gauss-Jumping" but there's some strange appeal

    Hive hand most def, you can kill anyone from any distance and if you're good enough to stay in situations where they can't get a crosshair on you but you can let the homing bugs do the aiming for you, you can kill anyone without taking damage.
