Ns In High Color?

When I play NS (version 3.0 btw) the game goes to True Color instead of my default High Color setting. On True Color, my gamma and contrast fall and I can't see anything. On the last release (for those who do play 3.0, 3.0d) I some how got my game to play in High Color. I have an Intel video card (don't know which one but I could find out).
Later i'll get pictures to show what I mean. If anyone knows what i'm talking about then please give advice.
Almost forgot: I do have a right click menu that allows me to change to High Color mode but alt-tabbing out of NS lowers my 60 fps in menu to 10. If I try to minimize in windowed mode, when I click back into NS it changes back to the True Color mode.
UPDATE: Tried to get screenshots but it won't show the game in the gamma it really should be. I'm also wondering if there is a way to disable the game from trying to make the gamma go up. I think this might be the problem because it only happens when I try to enter a game, and it happens right when the game would be enhancing the gamma.

and do you run in OpenGl or d3d ?
