Why am i the only one that never had any problems with steam both fps and ping :/
Never crashed on me once, never locked up or anything.
    It just runs and plays.

On moz firebird you just right click to and select save link to disk and open it in WinRar or another Rar file opening application.

this discovery also explains why people were getting killed when they were around a corner from where people were shooting from, hrm, it looks like there needs to be some netcode investigation, and that clearly this will be valve's problem...(like they really need any more than they already have)

im actually totally agaisnt steam seeing as it makes any game unplayable for me - u tryed playing with 1000+ ping? it aint pretty... dunno why though, on WON my pings about 200-300 at most what the hell did valve do to screw it up so much? (this is actually a question. i mean how can the upgrade be worse? ) WON was fine IMHO, when 3.0 comes out the 56k community on NS is going to die off completely

hmm...perhaps this is one of the reasons why I'm so rubbish at 3.0 compared to 2.01

    Okay, enough of this BS.

For anyone wondering who made those mpegs, it was eR[matchbox]. The demos he took them from, were made from me.

I was playing at 2:30 AM, and noticed that there was a super skulk, and because I was a little irratable at the time, I decided to make a demo and test the bullcrap that happened as a result of this bug.

Now, for the morons who think it's 'bad aim' or 'bad lag', here's a newsflash:

    IT WASN'T EITHER OF THEM.

For the first mpeg, with the lerk, I shot his butt and you can clearly see the hitbox bug in action. The sparks aren't missing him. It happens to some extent in 2.01, but not NEARLY as bad.

To the second mpeg, who some idoits happen to think that bad aim was the reason the skulk lived, has to be the stupiest and most rediculous thing I've ever heard.

In that second mpeg, there was myself, with a shotgun, and 4 other marines with HMGs firing at the skulk. So not only do I have sucky **** aim, but so do all of the others. While the skulk had carapace, he only has 70 hp and 30 armor. This means that you need about 5-6 HMG shots. One shotgun should also be enough. You are basically saying, that out of 125 chances x 4, not even 5 of them could succeed. Out of my 8 shotgun shells, which ARE NOT MISSING GUYS, maybe there were a bit off, but a good 3 of them were dead on and most of the others skimmed the skulk at point blank ranges, not one of them could even connect...

Then all I have to say is you are an amazing being who can stare right past of the logic. GG and props to you for your outstanding intelligence.

By the way, in the same demo we also tested other skulks... Guess what, they died in 1 to 2 shotgun shots, the HMG's didn't even connect before I killed them.

So please, enough with the "OMG HE CAN'T AIM J00 SUXors! J00 ARE NOT 1337 LEIK MEH!!!11", because you make yourself look like a moron.

Yet another reason why Steam is absolutely awful software.

Because this is entirely Steam's fault....riight

And norn, I think it's more than screwed up hitboxes ;D

This is more likely to do with the new HL version than Steam. (Ironically, while people are bashing Steam, the program makes it easier to fix the real problem.) This is a big deal, though it only happens to a few players. Could you imagine something like this happening in CAL? I don't know what they're going to do when they find out about this. They can't simply drop HL games. Hopefully Valve has tracked this down and will be fixing it in an update soon.

You know, I don't care that NS is delayed a little more. That is not a big deal to me, it'll be out when its GOOD and ready. But what I do think the NS team needs to do more of is update the main page a little more often. It can go entire months without update. It keeps me interested in the game, because everytime I come to the site and there is nothing new (official stuff) I subconsiously lose a little interest in the game. I really think I would be nice to just put an update on the page now and then. But it's not a big enough deal to make me say "NS suxx0rz CS r0xx0rz ur b0xx0rz!!!!!! YEHAJHFLKJSTLKGKLAKJRTUKHTRJKL". NS is still the best game mod ever made. (And by the way, Mr. Flayra's new company sounds cool as heck. It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside)

Ahahaha, that was great. I have to be honest, I've never had a problem with Steam. I had to reinstall once because I cancelled the file conversion, but after that, it worked fine. Never had problems with ping, lag, fps, or any of the general ranting subjects.
I have seen this bug and wish I would have recorded it - I kept killing skulks after they had gone behind corners because the hitbox was still behind them. I thought it was kinda funny, but the skulks didn't
On the topic of Steam - please, use some sort of basis for your conclusion that Steam is the problem. No one has concretely proven any difference between Steam and WON, other than the interface, of course. I've never had a problem with it, and though I seem to be speaking for myself, I would have to say I prefer Steam over WON.

I remeber hearing someone on some CS forum say something about the hitboxes for the models always lagging slightly behind them, and that it was due to some config setting that you can change on HL. Most of the time I would say that is responsible for kills that people get just after someone goes around a corner. In the videos shown however the hitboxes appear to be nowhere near the models, so I'm kindof wondering weather or not it isn't a glitch that is affecting that client side setting (although it would be strange if it were only effecting one alein or marine player in the game, and all other remain normal). Has anyone posted these vids and a summary of what is happening here on the steampowered forum? maby someone there knows a bit more about this, or at least what might be causing it.

ya know what, im seeing a pattern here, and what spear just said made my think that this might be related to choke (sp?) i could be wrong but the fact that you can fix it by changing something in configuration, or perhaps in console? (where you change your choke settings) could have something to do with this

....or i could just be raving and saying things such as "YEHAJHFLKJSTLKGKLAKJRTUKHTRJKL"

Please don't post your "expert opinions", there has been an extensive amount of testing on this and those are our conclusions, and we've taken in pretty much every possible variable there is including different mods, servers, half life configurations, and more.

Omg ppl. These guys haven't seen it once. Or twice. They TESTED IT. That means they have seen it various time in various HL mods.

A german phrase says: Wer lesen kann ist klar im Vorteil! It means The one who can read has a huge advantage! (well not exactly but translations suck)

As it only happens for 1 or 2 people every now and then, was it easy to test if its so random? Is it frequent for certain players at all or can anyone have this bug happen to them?

It happens to me too in Steam. Must be the new netcode :/

Netcodes usually have to do with updating player entity updating. It seems that the netcode is updating it entity locations half a second after it actually does. And yet it renders models on the spot where they are hmmm....

BTW, I have experienced this on NS 2.01, and the players that were killing me were not bad shots. Somehow it seems that HL's netcode is a bit faulty.

I was just curious to know if this problem has always been here even when it was still 2.1 and it has only been tested and proved only now? Logically it should have always been but I would just like to know.

PS I'd like to thank you vets/cms/pts for the news, its what is keeping me going
