Guide To Less Lag?

i once found this "guide" to less lag. basicly it showed you how to change diffrent things in the game to make less lag. since then i have gotten a new hard drive and cannot find the guide. Does anyone out there know where this guide is or can you just reply a few helpful things to help me get less lag.
